GOODYEAR CORD TIRES GROW IN PUBLIC OPINION

All of the district managers of the Bales organization of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber company spent the week at the general offices of the company at Akron, reviewing the remarkable strides Goodyear has been making and planning for the future. Men In close contact with trade conditions from coast to coast and from the lakes to the gulf exchanged experiences and ideas, and the consensus of reports is that Goodyear is wrll embarked on the most successful manufacturing and sales year in Goodyear history. An Interesting development of the conference is the remarkable increase, in sales and popularity., of . Goodyear cord tires. Figures , and contracts were shown, proving that of the new

cars for 1916 which manufacturers are equipping with cord tires, two out of every three will be equipped with Goodyear cords. Such manufacturers as Packard, Locomobile and Franklin already use Goodyear cords as standard tire equipment, and other contracts, already obtained, are shortly to be announced. This "two out of three" announcement roused the greatest of enthusiasm among the Goodyear hustlers, as it is even a greater portion of the manufacturers' business, in the cord tire field, than the proportion earlier announced as Goodyear's share of all manufacturers' business for 1916. Goodyear tires of fabric or cord construction will equip one of every three new cars made this year. Goodyear cord tires will equip two out of every three new cars on which cord tires will be used. In the equipment of cars already running, the - reports of the district managers show that Goodyear dealers business is also growing amazingly, and -that this year Goodyear service stations are more thoroughly what the name indicates that they have ever been before.

. That the percentage of the privately owned automobiles being driven by chauffeurs Is , diminishing at a rapid rate-la one of the conspicuous develop

ment of the last year.

The . automobile - industry feels the

influence of a condition like this in a growing tendency to 'balance one car

against another on the standard of its

being owner-driven or chauffeur-

driven.-, - :

Where the owner's requirements are

the ones to be met, the elemet of simplicity comes in for an important

share of consideration, for a simple car is easy to take care of.

Suggestions Made Complications in design and con

struction may be all right if the chauf

feur has the proper mechanical knowledge, although even then unecessary complications are open to criticism.

Here are some suggestions concern

ing the best way to select a motor car, given by an expert whose experience dates back to the infancy of the automobile industry in America:

Look upon the purchase of your car

as an investment, bearing in mind

that depreciation is as much a "part of the cost of ownership as are running and repair expenses.

Other things being equal, simplicity

reduces depreciation to the minimum,

depreciation being recognized as the difference between the purchase price of a car and the figure at which it is sold second-hand. Buy a car best suited to your par

ticular needs, which means, in other words, a car adapted to your average requirements. Buy a car which willgive you the greatest service at the least cost, al

ways remembering that simplicity in

an automobile begets economy in upkeep and operation as well as preventing excessive depreciation.

This new and wonderful Goodrich "Barefoot Rubber," is as stretchy almost as a pure Rubber band, Light-weight. as Rubber in its-native amber color, but stronger, tougher, longer-wearing (in Tires) than pure Rubber could ever be. . . That Lightness, Stretch, and CLING-quality is due, in part, to the absence of the heavy and inert tvhite substances which, in other Tires, provide the gritty texture designed to give effective but grinding Traction, when Clutch or Brakes do their work. To provide its maximum Traction with minimum Friction (which means minimum Heat, minimum Tread-Wear, and lessened Strain on the rubber adhesive between fabric layers.) That's the Mission of the new Goodrich "Barefoot Rubber." How well it does this work, how much more Resilience, Comfort-in-riding, and Mileage, it gives, may. be realized only by test.

Now is the Time to Buy Your "Six-46"

Let us again urge you to place your order for a Fairfield "Six-46" as soon as you possibly can. Don't wait too long don't be too sure that you can buy to just as good advantage thirty or sixty days from now. For- remember there were, three purchasers for each "Six-46" that we could turn out last year. And, up to the present time, there is every indication that this "sold out" condition will be repeated. Then, also remember that the cost of manufacturing materials and labor is ' , still soaring. Already, several manufacturers have found it necessary to increase the list price of their cars, and more announcements of this kind are undoubtedly coming. By early buying, we have done everything that we possibly could to protect ourselves and you. But in the face of. a constantly rising market, we may be forced to increase prices ' proportionately. From the present outlook there is no other alternative for we flatry refuse to compromise on the quality of our cars. We shall continue to use only the best materials no matter how

far the commodity prices may advance. Of one thing you can be certain the Paige "Six-46" will never cost less than $1295 this year. We absolutely guarantee this, but we can't undertake to guarantee against an advance. Above all, please understand that this advertisement is written in a sincerely helpful spirit. It is by no means our purpose to. "stampede" motor car buyers into early or ill-advised purchases. We are merely telling you the factsfacts that can be readily substantiated by your banker or any man who is well informed in regard to industrial conditions. We want you to drive a Paige, of course, but we have never found it necessary to resort to "expedients" in order to sell a single car of our production. The "Six-46" now costs $1295. At that price, we honestly believe that it represents more actual dollar-for-dol-lar value than any other motor car on the market. Wait too long and you run the risk of paying more.. Place your order now, and you can rest assured that you will never regret the decision.
