Fight for "Cheaper Gas The city authorities are on the right track in opposing a compromise with the Richmond Light, Heat & Power company on the gas rate problem. The final gas rate schedule ought to be based on the theory which the gas utilities in Ohio are using, namely, that by increasing the amount of gas used by the consumers through cheap rates, the companies will be able to make bigger profits. No one will deny that if gas rates are advanced above the forty cent schedule, hundreds of patrons will order the service cut off and will go back to the use of coal and other fuels. The

company will lose thousands of dollars of business here if the rates go above the forty cent mark. On the other hand, if the company keeps the present rate, or even reduces it, more patronage will be obtained. Again, if the rate is made attractive many persons who now use coal . in their furnaces will be tempted to introduce gas because the service, is cleaner and does away with the carrying in of coal and the carrying out of ashes. Consumers of fuel have been slow in adopting gas because of the forty cent rate now in operation. The gas expert at Columbus, Ohio, who expressed surprise at the small consumption of gas here in comparison with the amount used in the Ohio city was right when he asserted that lower rates here would mean an increase in business for the company, and at the same time mean bigger revenues. If the city had gone ahead and compromised with the company on a fifty cent rate, it is natural to presume that consumption would have fallen off, the result being that sooner or later, the company would again have appeared before the state public service commission and asked for an increase in order to meet operating expenses and make a fair return on its investment.

The Sandman Story For Tonight

The fairies like music just like you do. They don't have pianos and violins and other Instruments like we have, but they have their minds just the fame. But of all their musicians, they liked their fiddler best. And the fiddler was a big green grasshopper. Whenever the fairies were going to have a dance or anything like that the queen would send one of her messengers to old man Hop-a-do, the very best grasBhopppr fiddler in all Fairyland. Old man llon-a-do would not have a fiddle like real men have. When he Wanted to play for the fairies he had to nit down and then draw his ' legs across each c'her. It made the most

beautiful music that any of the fairies I had ever heard. One night the fairies were having a 1 big dance. And old man Hop-a-do was playing his very best. But suddenly there was a noise, and before any of the fairies could do anything old man Hop-a-do was whisked away. The fairy queen was very surprised

at this and tent her policemen fairies to see what the trouble could be. While they were trying, to find out what had happened to old man Hop-ado, the fairies sat around and talked, bpcause thoy had no mucic to dance by. By and by the captain of the police

men fairies came up to the queen.

'Tour majesty," he said, "we have found old man Hop-a-do, but we could not get him. He was whisked away

by the Goblin Growley-grew for some goblins who are giving a party tonight." "How "dure they steal old man Hoptide?" tr.id the queen, and she was

very mad. "Come here, Meta, and help me get old man Hop-a-do back." Meta was the fairy queen's favorite. She was a very wise fairy and knew all about making the goblins behave themselves. When' Ml ta came to the queen and heard the news she looked very grave and began to think. "Think hard. Meta," said the queen, "for we must have old man Hop-a-do back again." "You must send your very prettiest fairies to the goblin party," Meta told the queen. "When they get there they nuiKt change themselves into goblins and play with the real goblins. Then when they have made friends with them thoy cau turn old man Hcp-a-do

into a goblin, and he can come back with them." The queen thought this a very good idea. So she called some of her very prettiest fairies and told them the play. As soon as the queen had told them they got out their wands and turned themselves into goblins. Now 1 hey were not ugly goblins like the real ones were, but pretty little girl goblins that were just as sweet as sweet could be. Alter they were all turned to goblins they scampered away to the real goblins' party. As soon as the real goblins Maw all the pretty little girl goblins coming they went to meet them. They

asked them to come and play and danced with them and had a good time. But the fairies were not going to forget old man Hop-a-do and what the queen had told them, although they were having a very nice time. Soon one of them went up to old man Hop-a-do and told him who she was. "Keep on playing, old man Hop-ado," she said, "and when you have finished this piece I will change you Into a goblin and you must run back to the queen just as fast as you can. Vhen we get back we will make you a grasshopper once more." So old man Hop-a-do went on playing -till he had finished the piece.

Then, quick as a flash, the fairy changed him into a goblin and he ran back to the fairy queen. Now, the reason the real goblins did not see all this was because the little fairy goblins were so pretty they were talking to them and not noticing old man Hop-a-do. But after awhile they did find out about the fiddler, and were very mad. They were so mad they began to fight amcng themselves. -This gave the fairies just the chance they wanted, so they hurried back to the queen and.
