MILTON, Ind.,' Feb. 18. A coal drop ping from' an open stove door almost resulted in a disatrous fire here Wednesday afternoon.' Mr. and Mrs. John 1 Baker living near the old woolen mill site, on East North street, were at Brookville, where they were called by sickness. The children, who attend school were left at home. One of I them returned from school in the afternoon to find the house full of smoke.- He was thoughtful enough to pour a bucket of water on the floor ithat was ready to blaze, and give the ' alarm. Help was jtoon at hand- and but b little damage was done. It is thought . that the stove door leu open ana a coal dropped to the floor. EATON Following a Jong illness, resulting from kidney trouble, Peter Miles, more than 70, a former resident of this city, died at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at his home. 1218 West First street. Dayton. No arrangements have been announced for funeral services. The body will be brought here for burial. Most of his life had been passed in Preble county. For nearly four years he served as guard at the state penitentiary. He is survived by his widow and three children, Calvin Miles,, Miss Bertha Miles and Mrs. Clara Florkey. of Dayton; Isaac Miles, noar Vjktnn- rharips Miles, of Jeffer.tnviiia- Mn Do la Pentacost. of Kitchell. Ind. Richard MileB, East Israle street, is a brother. - DR. FRED MORTON. EATON Local relatives have been advised of the death of Dr. Fred Morton. 42, at his home at Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
