CAMBRIDGE CITY. Feb. 14. The reception given by the Beebe Clove company at Its factory Friday evening was one of the most pleasant and interesting social affairs held in this city in recent . years . Fully six hundred persons visited tbe factory during the evening. Mr. Beebe in a pleasing manner welcomed the citizens, and spoke of what they were doing at the present time, and what they expect to accomplish in the future. He described the different kinds of material used and explained tbe different steps in the manufacture of gloves. The factory was operated from 8 to 9:30 o'clock by skilled operators brought
from Richmond, that citizens might.
have the privilege of observing the various phases of glove making. The occasion was enlivened with music by an orchestra, and carnations were presented to tbe ladles. A number of Richmond people were present,' among whom was John M. Lontz, president of .the company, and other officials. The people of Cambridge City are enthust- , astlc over this new enterprise, and ' will give it their hearty support. . . . . Miss Elizabeth Morrow of M uncle fs ! the guest of her uncle, Rev. M. J. Gor- . man of St. Elizabeth's church. .. .The dance given by members of the Pocahontas degree at tbe I. O. R. M. hall ' Friday night was a pleasant affair; The company 'was made up of twenty- ; five couples, including guests from Knightstown, Milton and Dublin. The ' music, which - was pronounced excellent, was furnished by Reese & Davis. ....Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Welgel had for their guest 3unday the latter's Bon, Albert Weed of Franklin, Ind....Vili liam Sweeney, whose health has been falling for several months, is quite ill at his home on Main street. . . .Clifford Marson has purchased of R.'D. Steele a lot on Mulberry street on which he will erect a residence in the near future. .. .Daniel Chapman and John , Groves, ' lnterurban conductors, have : been off duty the past week on account of grip. . . .The Helen Hunt club met today with the Misses Overbeck. The time was devoted to a study of "Letters and Art in Indiana.". .. .Mr. and Mrs. John Dora of Chicago, have taken possession of tbe Home restaurant recently purchased from E. A. Barry.. ..A sufficient number of tickets have . been sold to insure the holding of the Purdue short course of several days at this place in 1917. . . .Mrs. F. J. Harvey entertained the members of the Thursday club at her home on Maple street. Five hundred at several tables formed the chief diversion of the afternoon. A two-course luncheon was served in the dining room, the decorations of which bespoke the Valentine season. Attractive place cards in the form of cuplds were used. The candle shades were formed of cuplds. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. Geo. Babcock. In the company were Mesdames George Butler, Harry Bales, Clarence Ingertnann, F. J. Scudder, J. W. Harper, Charles Wheeler. F. M. Murray, George Babcock and E. R. Callaway, with Mesdames Jennie .Tones, R. A. Hicks. Robert Hughes, O. U. Toppln, W. R. Llttell and Miss Eva Toms as guests. .. .Miss Bertha Myers of Mlllvllle is the guest of her cousin, Miss Blanche Boyd.... The Friday night club will meet, this week at J he home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Reese. The evening will be devoted to Russian music, consisting of vocal and instrumental selections. Those partici

Kabel. . . .Mrs. Ellen Mann of Richmond and Mrs. Seleste Bond were guests of Mrs. Winfleld Eliason Saturday. . . .Miss Mildred Rummell entertained the members of the sophomore class of the high Bchool Thursday evening. V The class colors, red and white, entered into the room decorations, which consisted of festoons In which hearts were entwined with sraiIax. Old-fashioned games furnished the amusement. The favors were miniature cupids....Miss Helen Filby was tbe guest, of relatives at Connersville Sunday. . . . Mrs. Clarence Darnell . of Indianapolis has been visiting her parents, -Mr. and Mrs. James Van Meter. . . . .The Farner property, corner of Jones : and Maple streets, has been purchased by Frank Kerschner who will remodel it and occupy it as a home.... Re v. Frank V. Summers of Indianapolis delivered a very able' address to a very small audience at the Christian church Thursday evening. His subject was ."Our National Peril."
