STAR GRAND MATRON LAUDS MILTON TEAM FOR PRETTY DRILL

MILTON. Ind., Feb. 7 The Eastern Star had a called meeting Saturday evening, the occasion being the visit of the Grand Matron, Mrs. Florence Strout, of Bedford. A large number of the members were present and a fine meeting was the result The work . was exemplified by the local Chapter and the Chapter received high commendation for nice work from the grand matron. She said it was equal to If not better than any Chapter-she had yet visited. The work was followed by a very pleasing address by Mrs. Strout after which the members and their guest repaired to the banqueting hall where a nice spread was given. Mrs. J. W. Judkins gave the word of thanks at table. In the absence of the worthy patron, the office was filled by J. A. Brown. The members from Cambridge City who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Goebel, Mrs. J. W. Judkins and son, Will Judkins, Mrs. Wesley Cornell. Mrs. Charles Wheeler and Mrs. F. M. Murray. Mrs. Earl Thomas, of New Lisbon, who is a member of Milton Chapter, was also present. Mrs. Strout was entertained at dinner by Miss Sarah Roberts. She was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Williams over Saturday night The funeral services of the late Milo Newman, were conducted from the home of his sister, Mrs. Sarah Hussey, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The order of exercises were the reading of the obituary by the Rev. F. C. McCormick, pastor of the Christian church, who alsq gave the reading of a beautiful poem, on a card from the M. E. church. Cyrus Whltely of Friends church,' gave the prayer, following It with a very Impressive talk on the character of the deceased. He spoke of his being a lover of nature and followed by the thought that thorns and roses grow together, and while we must have the thorns, he thanked God, that there were the roses too. A few remarks were also given by Henry Whltely, the aged father of Cyrus Whitely, who had always knowu the deceased. The music was given by Albert Newman, a nephew- of the deceased, J. A. Brown, Mrs. J. A. Brown and Miss Cora Brown, the numbers being "Wonderful Peace," "Nearer My God to Thee," and "Abide With Me." There were many beautiful flowers, one piece being from friends in the community. The interment was at Westside cemetery. The bearers were W. H. Brown, Jesse Moore, Will Ohmit, Frank Rothermel, George Murley and Charles Ferris. The nephews and nieces from out of town, who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Izor, Mrs. Jesse James and Newman Atkinson of Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kennard of Knightstown, Charles Atl.inson of South Bend, Mr. and Mrs. Vivgil Nevvrnan and daughter of Cambridge City.

LODGE HOLDS SOCIAL

NEW PARIS. O., Feb. 8. A delightful evening was spent Friday by the New Paris Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and their husbands, who were guests at the banquet which followed the regular meeting of the chapter to which one candidate, Mrs. Everett O. Reid, was Initiated. Vocal and Instrumental music enlivened the hours before the "di8h,, banquet to which each member had contributed one dish articles, was served. A varied and appetizing menu was the result. Arch R. Raney of Eaton Is worthy patron, and Mrs. Olive Jones Is worthy matron of the chapter.

OMAR MIKESELL WEDS MISS GRAY IN SOUTH

NEW PARIS, O., Feb. 8. An announcement which came as a surprise to New Paris friends was that of the wedding in Lakeland, Fla., of Miss Lydia Gray and Omar E. Mikesell, which took place last Thursday. Miss Gray is the niece of G. A. Bogan and came here from Kansas two years ago to make her home. Mr. Mikesell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Mikesell, near Wiley's station. Miss Gray went south with her uncle two weeks ago to spend the winter, and Mr. Mikesell sell joined her during last week. After a short honeymoon in the land of flowers Mr. and Mrs. Mikesell will come to Richmond and have a residence after March 1. Mr.' Mikesell Is an employe of the McConaha company.

NEW PARIS, Feb. 8. The Jefferson Township Sunday School association will hold a convention Sunday afternoon, Februray 13 at the Presbyterian church, at 2:30 o'clock, to be addressed by F. G. INJURED IN QUARRY

NEW PARIS, O., Feb. 8. Mrs. Sarah A. Fisher visited her son, Roy Fisher, at Reid Memorial hospital, Sunday. Roy was one of the victims of the accident Friday at the quarry. An X-ray examination Saturday showed
