CommcMs From the Local Papers Regarding Recent Financial Trouble of Standard Co. (Taken from the Richmond Palladium of Dec. 29, 1915) BANKRUPTCY ACTION CLOSES LOCAL STORE . i- l Voluntary bankruptcy proceedings have been instituted in the court at Cleveland, O., by the Standard Merchandise company, owner of the Railroad store, North . Eighth and E streets. The store has been closed for invoice and the stock will probably be sold to meet the indebtedness, which is $73,000. H. A. Beckett, of Cleveland, was appointed receiver for the company and John Stark, proprietor of the local store, was appointed custodian while the 6tock is being invoiced ready for disposition by the court. The assets of the company are estimated at $60,000 by John Stark, local proprietor.

RAILROAD STORE IS BANKRUPT The Standard Merchandise com pany, a holding company, which oper ates a chain of stores of which the Railroad Store, North Eighth and E streets, is one, filed bankruptcy pro ceedings in Cleveland, O., Tuesday, The local store is closed indefinitely The assets of the, company are listed at $60,000 and the liabilities at $73,000. The company 13 offering set tlement at 40 per cent. The Monarch Manufacturing com pany, one of the creditors, is not ac cepting the offfer, it is believed, for it has filed suit in circuit court today asking payment of its account for $125. The suit makes the Railroad Store a co-defendant (Taken from the Richmond Palladium of Feb. 1,' 1916) RAILROAD STORE OPENS ITS DOORS Having made a satisfactory settlement with creditors and effected a reorganization the Standard Merchandise company today announced that its local branch, the Railroad Store, had re-opened for business. Following the adjustment the store has reverted from the hands of the receiver to the company. John Stark will continue to act as manager.
