PORTER PLAYS GREAT GAME ON DEFENSIVE Red and White Starts With Rush But Slumps Toward , , . I Close and Puts Ud Rasreedl iu , I A.IUICK. . Richmond high school's basketball five defeated the Hamilton high school team at the Coliseum last night 36 to 25, before a crowd of over 2,000 people. The locals started off with their usual rush and for the first fifteen minutes of play put up the game they are capable of but after that they slow, ed down and Hamilton had them chasing the ball all around the floor. The game Richmond offered in the second half was a lamentable disappointment to their followers. They hardly moved fast enough to make the visitors extend themselves in making 6 goals in this period as against three in the first twenty minutes of play. Little Porter Stars. Clarence Parter and Parker, played a strong defensive game and it is due to their efforts that the score of the Hamilton boys was held as low as it was. Brown was away off in bis shooting at the basket in the opener but came back toward the close making five tallies before the final whistle. Parker did not 6hoot fouls as well as he has done in previous games getting but two out of six chances. Coach Nobr was not even satisfied with the showing in the first period although the score was 21-9 in favor of the locals. He guve the boys a lec ture between time and instructed them on some weak points but the talk went over their heads. IMPERIALS LOSE TO GARFIELDERS The game between the Garfield first team and the Imperials at Garfield last night was hot all the way through, and decidedly rough. The Imperials went into the game expecting an easy victory, but were defeated, by a score of 26-17. The pass work of Sparks, Runnels and Tevis was fast, sum' raary: Garfield. C F.G. Missed. F. COLLEGE SQUAD FAILS TO SHOW ANY TEAM WORK Laning, Richmond Boy, Shines as Star for Earlham,
Scoring Half of Team's Field Goals. Earlham opened the college basketball season at the Coliseum last night, losing to the State Normal school 50 to 33. The Normalites put up a game that was too fast for the Quakers to follow. They had Earlham running wild most of the time when they secured the ball. The boys from Terre Haute played a fine game in the open and their passwork had the local team mystified. Shriner was the mainstay of the visitors making fourteen fied goals and four fouls. Earlham failed to cover the men to any advantage. Time after time Shriber found an opening under the basket and when the leather was passed to him he had no difficulty in dropping it in the net. Laning played a good game at forward and would have score 1 more than the seven goals he secured if he bad been protected a little. On the defensive Meeks starred for Earlham playing a fast and aggressive game. Castle was substituted during the second period and showed that after a little more practice he will find a steady berth on the varsity, team. His shooting both from the field and for fouls was accurate and he mixed up in the floor work in good style. The Normalites did not appear to strike their proper stride until the second half and they flashed at times in a manner that made the local college men look as though they were not in the game at all. Coach "Wbltesides used eleven men in the game in an effort to stop the advance of his rivals but it did no good for the visitors had the lead and gave no sign that they were going to relinquish it putting on more speed every time a fresh man came in the game. Fountain City has a fairly good team of basketball tossers and should show the locals a rough and fast game. The line-up will be Laning, Jones and Logan, forwards; A.
