To Father Glaves, a Greek Catholic priest of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is given the credit for having prevented a panic aboard the Greek liner Thessaloniki, which for more than two weeks floated About on the Atlantic in an almost sinking condition. In the midst of a storm the vessel sprang a leak and the engines were stopped. The hold began to fill with water and the 177 passengers became frightened, Father Glaves, who was" returning to this country after a visit to his native land, appealed to the religious nature of the passengers and, erecting an altar in the steerage, held a prayer service. .

To stop falling hair at once and rid the scalp of every particle of dandruff, get a 25-cent bottle of Danderlne at any drug store, pour a little in your hand and rub it into the scalp. After a few applications the hair stops coming out and you can't find any dandruff. Adv. POLO -Wednesday Night Racine vs. Richmond. General Admission 25c.

man In sudden irritation she turned upon him. When a man lies to a woman and she finds him out she is never quite sure what pose to take. The very fact that he can lie makes him seem suddenly not worth while. Anger seems futile and to ignore the situation is to invite a repetition of It. Caroline persisted In her almost coquettish manner. "Very well. Can I drop you there?" "No. I shall need you here. He laid the cloak, on which he had not relinquished his hold, across the chair and turned to her with a quiet air of finality. I shall need you Mere." "Ob,' then our meeting was most fortunate." "Yes. I was wondering how to get you here." "As it is probably the last time I shall ever come, if there is anything you would like me to do for you while here,"I am here," began Caroline with a charming Ingratiating air. But, even as he admired her histrionic ability and paid it tribute, the man interrupted her: "CaioilteSVou are magnificent! We'd better get right to the point. I needn't detain you very long. I've told. Miss Madden and the others to ah come downstairs in five minutes." . ' . ' , Caroline assumed an air of utter perplexity, the incredulity in her voice verged on pathos. "1 wonder what she can have to say to me; do do you want me to meet her again?" "I am afraid I shall be obliged to insist upon it. I have already satisfied Mr. Krellin." "That must have been fatiguing but how nice! I believe be wants to marry her." "Yes," agreed the man gravely. The woman persisted in taking the thing lightly, with an air ' of detached amusement. "A very amusing man too bad I Now, how am I concerned?" The man made his demands so simply that the woman recognized what dangerous earnestness she had to fight. "In the presence of all the people before whom you made your accusation against Miss Madden I should like you to retract it and apologize." "My dear Hubert. I consider that you've never had any fault to find with me in any of your former affectionate waywardness. Of course, I have regretted them; but my pride has never been involved until now. This adventure is different. You might at least have chosen a woman of your own class." . t - Caroline's air of injured innocence almost deceived herself, but it did not hoodwink the man. "I closed my eyes even to this, until the unfortunate woman was forced upon me in' a manner I felt obliged to resent. I'm very sorry. I know so little of how, these people act. You might have pume on my guard. Now you wish me to apologize to her for having said the truth. Really. Hubert, don't you think you ask too much?" "I have assured them you would do so. That was the purpose of my visit." The man's tone was Inexorable, but the woman refused to recognize its finality and smiled rather lightly as she replied: ' "I'm very sorry to disappoint the audience and perplex the impresario . . . .you may cut my salary if you like; but. I give no performance this evening." " . - ' She concluded firmly and rose, assuming in her turn an air of finality. Gracefully the roan-, fell into her way of speaking. "Having heard you once, the audience refuses a substitute." SUFFERED YEARS OF TORTURE, CURED IN ONE MONTH Many Cases Suffering for Years -and Thought to Be Incurable, Now Being Healed. A prominent citizen of Alliance, O., writes: "For years I suffered with eczema on my face. Our leading druggist recommended Amolox. It has been several months since using It and my face is perfectly smooth, with no sign of a return of the trouble. JOHN HODGSON, 936 Noble St., Alliance, O. A Sparkling Serial of City Life ;
Novelized from tho Play By ANN LISLE "Then I suggest you . . . reimburse them," said the woman signific&iitly. "No, that won't do." "Have you tried?" "I explained that you came here with the best of , intentions and that you would fulfill their expectations." "I couldn't keep my face straight in the tragic parts." "I must really insist that you be serious," and Hubert was serious, very serious, as he said it. But Caroline refused to dignity the situation by recognizing the tone he was trying to give to it. She laughed. "It's no use of me trying." Knolys consulted his watch. "We're wasting time." 1 His wife studied him quizzically. "Hubert, you're so good-humored you almost make me feel that you're in earnest." "I am." "And If I still refuse?" "I shall protect Miss Madden absolutely; I shall sue for a divorce and name your latest as a co-respondent." Knolys made the statement with simple assurance. Caroline faced him and studied him calmly for a moment. Then she smiled in negation. "You can't," she said, assured in her turn. Hubert's smile fairly breathed triumph. . He had taken each step so carefully. He knew that however cleverly she played the game his wife could not block him. "I have persuaded Mrs. Sanbury to allow me to assume the suit." "So you stand with her," Caroline's words came slowly. She had a new enemy to face. Hubert rose and leaned across the Sanbury dining table, measuring his words with the emphasis of a band that seemed to beat out their refrain on the wood. "If I do not sue for the divorce, Mrs- Sanbury will; and she will name you as the co-respondent. That might be more annoying." Caroline got to her feet. Her Hps were twisting again; but her eyes were steady as they sought to probe the man's satric and amused gaze. "I have done nothing!" "The burden will rest , upon you to prove that, we are wrong. Come, you're too much a thoroughbred and too wise a woman not to know when you are beaten." . , . . By teaching firemen to handle coal scientifically a Hamburg society with more than 500 members alms to produce the highest possible efficiency from steam boilers with the least possible emission of smoke.: COMB SAGE TEA IN HAIR TO DARKEN IT Grandma Kept Her Locks Dark, Glossy, thick With a Mixture of Sage Tea and Sulphur. The old-time mixture of Sage Tea and Sulphur for darkening gray,, streaked and faded Lair Is grandmother's treatment, and folks are again using it to keep their hair a good, even color, which is quite sensible, as we are living, in an age when a youthful appearance Is of the greatest advantage. Nowadays, though, we don't have the troublesome task of gathering the sage and the mussy mixing at home. All drug stores sell the ready-to-use product called "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound" for about 50 cents a bottle. It is very popular because nobody can discover it has been applied. Simply moisten your comb or a soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning the gray hair disappears, but what delightsthe ladies with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur is that, besides beautifully darkening the hair after a few applications, It also produces that soft lustre and appearance of abundance which is so attractive; besides, prevents dandruff, itching scalp and falling hair.
