Your Hand Let's Shake the time is here, to meet and greet another year, and bid farewell without a sigh to that Old Year now passing by. At such a time it doesn't do to dwell on what's been handed you, but rather should we let our gaze take in the sweep of happy days that we have long been waiting on and coming with the New Year dawn. But while we're gazing, s'pose we take one backward look for old time's sake, and view again just for awhile some Old Year stunts that brought a smile. See William Jennings standing there, filled with emotion and with air, "Send if you must this awful Note and make of me the Nation's goat, then sit upon and ignore me, but do not tie my tongue, said he. And all that Cabinet, everyone, just whispered, "Bill, it can't be done. , . - We told 'em tho' across the seas thai we were some big hunk of cheese, quite old enough and strong enough to back up any kind of bluff. We didn't care to run or fight nor start a thing that wasn't right, but if they : sank another boat, we'd surely send another Note and that's what we kept telling 'em but they kept right on shelling 'em and when a boat did get to land, they held the thing as contraband. But that's no reason we should fight, why no, it's easier to write, and knowing how we need the Mon' we let 'em shoot and have their fun, and while they crowd the Golden Stairs, we're all becoming Millionaires. And Woodrow always said, "Don't fuss we must be neutral, all of us." Yet he, so dignified and brave, could never hake his eyes behave, and now so far as we can see the only person "shot" is he. But what's the use, the Old Year's gone, and we might just go on and on, with, say perhaps another stanza bout our dear old friend Carranza, or the Reds who can't be beat in any orderly retreat and then, some more, but now we hear the coming of the Glad New Year yes one that has in store for you, things greater than you ever knew. '
