TENNIS GAINS FAVOR AMONG BUSINESS MEN
According to the statement of a local observer of sporting matter In general next to baseball, tennis was the most
popular sport during the past summer and he predicts that next year it will be played by almost as many people as participate In the great national pasttime.i ' .;,. . Sportiaifcb6di"'iafealers when questioned aald that there had been a
great 'demand tor racquets and tennis
balls dOTng tne past season ana mat they anticipated a greater demand during the spring and summer of 1916. Tennis is not looked upon any more as a game for the feeble-minded but Is recognised . as a healthful outdoor exercise that gives all the muscles in the body plenty of play and i: is being Indulged In more and more by tired business men who want some relaxation from their office duties. Last year the smaller towns around Richmond took up the sport and while there was a vacant piece of ground it was converted into a tennis court. Golf is another game that is coming Into its own and some day in the near future sporting men assert that there w ill be public golf links In every large city. Like tennis, golf has been looked down upon as not being a fit game for a grown man to indulge in, but the people are forming a different opinion and understand better - the good that comes from the game throush tramping over the green, up and down hill, and swinging the clubs at the little white ball. Men and women too, get exercise that they would not take otherwise if It were not for the .incentive offered by the game.

A. lie has declared that especally among ihe young men greater Interest In religious matters were displayed than wver before in Richmond while he has been secretary of the association. He attributed this belief to the' Increased membership in the Y. M. C. A. and the iargo audiences which are attending tLe Sunday afternoon theatre meetings as well as the attendance present at all rellpious events held under the auspices of the Y. M. C. A.

An effort is . being made by the manager of the Richmond polo team to bring. Muncie here for a game on New .Year's night and arrangements to that end are now under way. BREHL1 TELLS BOXING CLUB'S WORKING PLAN
' George Brehm, manager of the new Quaker Ctyy Athletic club, denied today that the report that the organization was started for the purpose of running Billy Benson out of the boxing game, , Mr. Brehm requested that his position in the matter be published. He said that all members of the club were for Benson and that they would not oppose him in any way. In -fact, he said, they wanted him to work with them. . . ' "There-is no reason why Mr. Benson can not go ahead and hold his fights as he has done. We win patronize his'sh6ws and wlll help boost them all we can," said Mr. Brehm. ' "Our idea is to hold boxing matches under' different ponditions' than they have ever been held in Richmond. We intend to name a boxing commission and to see that the people are not handed any fakes. Every boxer must pass a rigid physical examination before entering the ring. There will be no boisterous yelling or anything of that sort allowed, and we will have men to enforce order. The first fight under the auspices of the new club will be held January 18, when Tommy Dillon is scheduled to meet Terry Nelson of1 Philadelphia. Red Schneider will box either Tommy

CISTERN HOLDS CIDER
EOONOMT, Ind, Doc. 31. Nath Edwards writes; There's a fanner in Gibson county, who has a cistern plum full of cider.
