This county Bystem would be of great value if It stopped with the county lines, but over the Old Trails road each county Is put in connection with the markets and peoples along the roadways of more than 73,000 miles of road. Who can estimate its value? It serves directly, in the niner.y counties. 6,307.474 people. While the National Old Trails' read Is hut 3,000 miles in length It traverses ninety counties, and will be the Transcontinental Trunk Line for 73,974 miles of county roads. Asks for Sketch. Please mail sketch or map of your county system of roads to Mr. Davis, and at once. In a letter just received from him I quctp as follows: "I have also instructed our chief car tographer to make this the best and finest map we have yet produced and to spare no pains toward that end Mr. Davis says further: "We are also preparing a kind of preparedness slogan to go above the third edition of the Old Trails Map and bring out the vast importance from a military point of view of a transcontinental highway for the transportation of troops. We know of no better location for this purpose than the National Old Trails road which, when completed, can be used every day of the year. This is not the case of any other highway." Now is the time to co-operate with our great and good friends not only in building but also in securing the Na tional Old Trails road as the one great National Old Trails Military Highway J. M. LOWE, President National Old Trails Road Association.
A Sparkling Serial of City Life
Novelised from the Play B.V ANN LISLE wince. Ahead lay the possibility of what Lawrence might be and do and desire once he had lost the guerdon of his wife s trust. All this animated Caroline's words. And sudden calmness came to Hildegarde with the instinctive knowledge that Caroline was playing the game rhen a good woman realizes that a bod one is out-manoeuvring and con quering her her resentment gives her sudden strength; and so to Caroline's insinuating "why not?" Hildegarde replied: "Because it isn't important enough, Mrs. Knolys." "You mean your husband's fidelity isn't important to you?" asked Caro line, taking a lofty tone. "Oh, yes, but there Is far more at stake. For his sake I've stepded aside I've given you every chance with him I don't know you've taken his time, his mind, his work, his energy he has amused you, fed your vanity and gratified your sense of power over people. With quiet power over herself Hildegarde analyzed the situation. "I've been patient. I've Tefi him free to choose, for if a woman like you can take the rest of him from me he Isn worth my energy to keep I don't want even a part of him if anything is with held. "And what have T to do with your ideal of marriage? sneered Caroline. "I don't approve of the way that you make use of the protection of your husband's name." "Then you'd better see my hus band," retorted Caroline daringly. "Perhaps I shall." Caroline made ready to take her leave. The situation was complete. Then quite casually she turned on thre threshhold and added: "He's just back from the South. He'll be In splendid humor after all you're done for him in shutting up the mills Good-bye."
