Teachers
Underpaid
Says Secretary Lane
WASHINGTON. Dec. 15. Education bas made less progress than any other American industry for the past thirty years and, as a result, the United States bas had to turn to foreign countries Italy, : Switzerland, Denmark, Germany for improved educational methods, according to the annual report of Secretary of the Interior Franklin K. Lane, a section of which he made public today. One of the principal contributing causes to this state of affairs is. the fa.'t that teaching is not yet considered the real profession in the United Slates and that the present teaching body is made up largely of persons who turn to this field as a makeshift in order to provide themselves with a living. In ' practically all foreign countries, education is a higher calling than here, says Mr. Lane. The secretary's suggested remedy far this state of affairs is the estab-

lishment of model schools in various parts of the country. To these schools he would bring in relays ten picked teachers from each state. These teachers would spend at least a month
teaching and learning in the model schools. -At the end of the period! they would go back to 'their home) states primed with the latest and most j valuable information on modern school j work and be prepared to direct thej
establishments of similar - model schools in their communities. The heed for a higher education is increasing, says Mr. Lane. He says that even the farmer of today must know chemistry, physics, mechanics, finance, transportation and allied lore and science to make him efficient The report says that teachers are underpaid. ' The need for a larger appropriation for the bureau of education is keenly felt, says the secretary. He Vould have the bureau the great leading factor which could guide modern American school work, leading the way to higher ideals In education. An appropriation of 1100,000 a year for two or three years, properly expended under the direction of the bureau of education. An appropriation of $100,000 a year for two or three years, properly expended under the direction of the bureau of education would give new life to American school work, says the secretary.

7b Avoid Dandruff
You do not want a sIotv treatment when hair is falling and the dandruff germ is killing tue hair roots. Delay means no hair. Get, at nuy drug store, a bottle of zemo for 25c or $1.00 for extra large size. Use as directed, for it does the work quickly. It kills the dandruff germ, nourishes the hair roots and immediately tops itching scalp. It is sure and safe, is not greasy, is easy to use and will not stain. Soaps and shampoos are harmful, as they contain alkali. The best thing to use is zemo, for it is pure and iso inexpensive. Zemo, Cleveland.
