"CUM! UNITY" NEEDED IN CITY TEDDETTS SAYS
Unity of the Christian churches is imperative and tbe goal of the various national and International religious movements is the organization of "The United Christian - Churches of the World," according to Rev. C. E. Tebbetts, pastor of the West Richmond Friends church who read a paper entitled "Church Unity" before the regular meeting of tbe Ministerial Association in the Y. M. C. A. this morning. He declared that "the church of today is criminally weak where it should be strong" and questioned whether a number of different churches in a city like Richmond is at all ideal. "Here we are, twenty churches with twenty pastors," Rev. Tebbetts said, "all witb the same round of duties, all attempting the same thing. There is no oppor
tunity for specializing. All cannot be equally strong in all department. We
do not know our neighbors as Christ ians. Forces Are Divided.
"The religious and moral force of the community is divided while the
forces of evil are united knowing upon
whom to depend in the hour of strug
gle. We do not. As a consequence
we go down to defeat.
"The depleted church life in the
rural communities and smaller towns
is now receiving practical considera
tion. Unity is, the only thing which will save them. The day is gone when preaching was largely controversial."
Amafag the movements which Rev. Tebbetts listed as agencies tending
toward the organisation of t worldwide Christian church were the Y. M. C. A, W. c T.-U- Tounf People movement. Laymen's MlSBlOTUrry movement. Men and Religious movement, Edinburgh conference, many union reform movements. Federal Council of Churches of Christ and the great evangelistic, movements. ,
Business which came before the meeting was largely, routine. A brief address on the temperance question was given by a representative of the Anti-Saloon league. Tbe evangelistic committee of which Rev. J. J. Rae Is chairman reported that Sunday, Jan. 1, had been set as the day to be known as "Every Member at Church Sunday," when especially large attendances at services will be expected. .

ed by the grand jury before returning the true bill. It was learned that no other cases were investigated at this session, and that tbe inspection of county institutions will be deferred
