M SWALLOW ARGUES FOR J RIVER SPAN

Ray Swallow baa submitted the folio wins for publication: Our Mala street bridge question is slowly assuming concrete form despite the .laxity of public Interest and will of course sooner or later be built to the satisfaction or dissatisfaction of the people who pay for it. A committee of officialdom went to Pittsburg to view and learn of modern and permanent methods of bridge building but the information gained was nihil or else not to be Imported to the public, as we are yet awaiting to learn the light that Pittsburg can give us on thlB subject. God's only possible motive In creating the pessimist is to serve as the governing wheel of the optimist. Waiting for News. We all enjoyed repairing to the west end of the Main street bridge last fall and listening to Prof. Kelly and Joe Blose tell us of the permanent and ornamental bridges of Dayton, O., etc., but when the time comes for action we shift responsibility and turn our listening ear toward the pessimist. Wayne county is one of the ninetytwo integral parts forming the greatest state of the world's greatest country. It can be presumed, therefore, that Wayne county Is greater than anything in the county. Must we then make the county subservient to any Interest in it or corporation passing through It. Can the matter of a 300 foot fill or property damage be greater than a commonwealth. Brings Up Comparison. One of the most tangible and convincing arguments is comparison. Tippecanoe county built a concrete bridge over the Wabash river at Iafayette in 1914. The total assessed valuation of

Tippecanoe county Is between $35,000,000 and 140,000.000, or practically the same as Wayne county. Their source of revenue tor bridges therefore, is the same as ours. Their bridge has two car tracks, two eightfoot walk-ways for pedestrians, is 728 feet between abutments and was provided for by a bond issue of $260,000. ;The engineers from Purdue have been here and told us that a ' level bridge, could be constructed at Main street for the same amount of money. The bonds covering the Lafayette bridge mature $13,000 semi-anually over a ten-year period. That, therefore, calls for an eight-cent increase in the tax levy. 8olving the Problem. Suppose for argument, that we are

not as willing to go down in our pockets as our Lafayette neighbors and that we extend the cost of construction over a period of twenty years. One-half of eight cents, or a four-cent increase of the tax "levy will meet the payment of the bonds. No question cf cost of construction or of resultant benefits ' can therefore arise. Shall we hand to posterity a model of the bridge builders' art and a civic beauty and pride, or a hump-backed compromise? There are reasons why this bridge should be more than the ordinary bridge structure. That the National road will at an early date be taken over by the government no one disputes.. We will be on a highway that will make it worth while in dollars and cents for us to have a bridge of this character. Let us build it . mentally and then labor to eradicate the objections.

PLATTS RESIDENCE MOOED OF CHANGE BY DAYLIGHT MAN

The residence of Carl Piatt, over his barber shop . at ' the corner of North Ninth .and Sailor streets was entered by a burglar yesterday afternoon,; between 4 and 6, o'clock, during-the ab

sence of Mr.and Mrs.Platt, and a sack containing $8.50 In small change taken. No trace of the thief has been secured. . Although a back window and the kitchen door were open when Mr. and Mrs. Piatt returned it is believed the thief secured entrance through the front door, using a skeleton key. No marks were found in the snow in the rear of the flat. Indicating that entrance to the flat waa not gained through the, back door. Near the ' place where the bag of money had been left was Mr. Piatt's1

FEW ACCIDENTS REPORTED FROM COUNTY TOWNS

Little damage and few accidents over the county have been reported due to the storm which has been prevalent for the last three days. Traffic on steam and interurban lines has not been interrupted or delayed and telephone and telegraph lines are still giving service, while in other parts of the Mate a heavy sleet and rain storm which froze on the lines broke them down and crippled service severely. Cambridge City reports thai the telephone service between that town and Hajrerstown was interrupted for a shorL time Saturday but that connection was restored with little delay. An aged man. Joshia Jones, aged 84, at New Paris fell on the icy pavement this morning fracturing a small bone in hia arm near the wrist. fountain City, Centerville and other towns in different parts of the county rcpurt no damage. A light snow continued to fall during most of the day, making the roads slick and treaCher-OUH.

SALE OF RED CROSS SEAL STAMPS LAGS

The plan of Belling Red Cross stamps at the post office and no other place in the city is not proving as successful as was anticipated by Mrs. A. W. Roach, president, of the Domestic Science association, who is in charge of the sale. Up to date, 16,000 stamps have been sold, but during the

past three days, there was no place in the city where stamps could be bought. There was no representative of the Domestic Science association at the desk in the post office. All but three of the women who helped in the houso to house canvass have reported. These sales constitute the bulk of the sales made up to date. ,Tbe policy of placing the stamps in the stores and hotels was discontinued this year by Mrs. Roach. Considerable Interest Is being shown In the county outside of the city, according to Mrs. Mary T. R. Foulke, who is distributing the stamps. Reports up to date show that 12,500 have been sold. Half of the money received in the sale of stamps in the county

will be used towards a fund for hiring

a visiting nurse next year.

A CURE FOR BRONCHITIS

We Have Been Selling in Richmond for Many Years a Remedy We Guarantee. Please read the following letter and we promise if you buy a bottle of Vinol from us and are the least bit dissatisfied, we will cheerfully return your money. Woodstock, ill. "I suffered from bronchitis, had a very bad cough and a pain in my chest, was weak and tired all the time. It seemed almost impossible for me to go on with my work. I tried different remedies without benefit, also cough medicines, but my druggist recommended Vinol, and it gave me almost instant relief. Its continued use cured my bronchitis and built me up so that I feel like a different man.' Charles Botts. The reason that cough syrups fail in such cases is because they are paliative only, while Vinol removes the cause, being a constitutional remedy in which are combined the healing elements of fresh cods' livers, together with tonic iron and beef peptone. It strengthens and revitalizes the entire system and assists nature to expel the disease. Our faith in Vinol is shown in the above offer. Leo H. Kibe, druggist. Adv.
