Now.' that winter Is here, the bears, coyotes and other fur-bearing animals in the eoo at Glen Miller park are in their glory and are more frisky than at any other season, for the. colder the weather the more they appear to enJoy It. ' ' The bears are especially happy. They break through the crusts of Ice that' form in their swimming-pools each morning and take a plunge with nluch gusto. When- they come out of the water the cold air quickly turns their black coats into a dazzling white and they jump around and play as they do at no other time. . The racoons, rabbits, skunks, eagles, deer and elk are also at their best at this time, for they like snow and frost. Of all the animals at the Glen the elk are the hardiest Even in the heaviest storms and blizzards they t never seek shelter. If snow falls fast and begins to cover them they will shake themselves, get up and seek another spot, and if again covered will ronoat tha nnoro Mrn Tt In not an

uncommon sight to see them buried

to tnelr necks witn just tneir neaa ' and antlers showing through their white covering. Animals from tropical countries, Buch as monkeys, parrots and alligators, are taken to a section of the greenhouse reserved for their use during the winter, and there they spend the long, bleak months. They get the (tame care during this season as they lo in summer, being fed regularly and cept in a clean, healthy condition. Superintendent Ford has no trouble with the alligators, for the moment they are taken into the greenhouse they lapse into a stupor from which

vney ao not nwunea uuiii uneu uui again in the summer. They do not eat during cold weather, but grow faster when on an "air" diet than when they are gorging themselves with food. Special quarters have been arranged for the famous ocelot cat, about which so much has been written, and

the animal . when taken into winter quarters appears to be glad to escape the public gaze. ' f .
