Thus spoke Mrs. John Blair, treasirr of the Equal Franchise Society, i.nd member of one of the oldest of New York's a.ristocratic families. The department of commerce just now is having trouble locating some members of the crew of the steamer Kroonland of the Red Star line., which went to the aid of the burning steamer Volturno, and saved eighty-nine persons aboard the doomed craft. . - Sixteen of the members of the crew to whom congress awarded medals and tendered a vote of thanks, have not been found.. . The seizure of the wheat supply is generally accepted as proof that the Allies realize that the Dardanelles cannot be forced and. that the tremendous wheat supply at Odessa cannot be released. This belief is strengthened by dispatches which state that the Canadian wheat is intended for Italy. Wheat dealers in the United States assert that Canada's action will not affect in a great degree the price of wheat in the United States. They attribute the increase in the quotations on the Chicago Exchange as a natural resultant of the announcement of the wheat seizure in Canada and say consistent increases in the price of grain need not be expected.

Democrats, you've made a record, you've set a pace That may cause a stir in the next Congressional race. But its a mighty long road that has no turn. So Republicans get busy, you've no time to burn. We'll try not fret, we'll try and not grieve, We'll stay on the job, don't think we'll leave, For the time will come when we'll proudly say That we've won an honest battle and in an honest way. J. R. X. Editor Palladium: I have read so much in The Palla dium about military training and about defending our home and flag. I will speak from experience. From serving in the army in the Philippines, I have found out that military training does very little good. It depends on the man himself after he has been in a battle. I have seen the best trained men that you would think would make good soldiers often make the biggest cowards of themselves. LOG ROLLING. . Another famous gathering of ablebodied men only, was that "log rolling.' Again captains were chosen, the company and the field evenly divided, and. armed with ions handspike, of hickory or ironwood, the contestants rushed to the fray. Looking over a bunch of logs the captain would say, "Here, men, this one here. Now that one," and in a trice three big logs would be placed side by side, then two smaller ones on top, and one more on the two. Or the pyramid might have four or five logs for a base, the smaller logs being carried and lifted Into place by passing the handspikes under them. During the day several acres would be gone over and the logs all nearly piled, ready for burning. There were no festivities, except a bountiful dinner, connected with this work. There is -no record of any one dancing after he had rolled and lifted heavy logs all day. Coming home at night the settler, If his own logs had been piled and were burning, would spend two or, three hours more "chunking up" his own fires, by rolling together again the ends and partly burned - pieces that had fallen apart, and adding brush and other debris. Men would go miles to help and of ten worked twenty to thirty days In one season at this heroic job. I W. MANCHESTER, O. I . 4 Jesse Dilks and family of Rossburg spent Thursday here with J. F. HAVE ROSY CHEEKS AND FEEL FRESH AS A DAISYTRY THIS! Says glass of hot water with phosphate before breakfast. washes out poisons. To see the tinge of healthy bloom in your face, to see your skin get clearer and clearer, to wake up without a headache, backache, coated tongue or a nasty breath, in fact to feel your best, day in and day out, Just try inside-bathing every morning for one week. Before breakfast each day, drink a glass of real hot water with a teaspoonful of limestone phosphate in it as a harmless means of washing from the stomach, liver, kidneys and bow. els the previous day's indigestible waste, sour bile and toxins; thus cleansing, sweetening and purifying the entire alimentary canal before putting more food into the stomach. The action of hot water and limestone phosphate on an empty stomach is wonderfully invigorating. It cleans out all the sour fermentations, gases and acidity and gives one a splendid appetite for breakfast. A quarter pound of limestone phosphate will cost very little at the drug store but is sufficient to demonstrate that just as soap and hot water -cleanses, sweetens and freshens the skin, co hot water and limestone phosphate act on the blood and internal organs. Those who are subject to constipation, bilious attacks, acid stomach, rheumatic twinges, also those whose skin is sallow and complexion pallid, are assured that one week of inside-bathing will have them both looking and feeling better in every way. 7ilAT CAUSES GOLDS? This question is asked every day. A cold is really a fever, not always caused by the weather but often due to disordered blood or lack of important food-elements. . In changing seasons fat-foods are essential because they distribute heat by enriching the blood and so render the system better able to withstand the varying elements. This is the important reason why Scott's Emulsion should always be taken for colds, and it does more builds strength to prevent sickness.
