The Forum Articles contributed for this column must not t' in excess of four hundred words. The Identity of all contrl-v'.ors must be known to the editor. Articles will be printed in the order received. Every one is a unit as regards the horrors of war, but divided as the best methods to avert war. The Friend : Quaker's idea appears to be to depend on God, the Lord could stop the present war if he wanted to. Why he don't I don't know. The Lord could have answered the prayers of the dry forces in this county at the last elec tion if he had wanted to. He could make every one accept salvation and ' make this a heaven on earth; be could dispel all pain and disease; he could make it all sunshine, warm and balmy f if he wanted to. One prays for rain, another for sunshine; one for the ' wind to blow from the east; one from the west ; one for hot and one for cold, ' and million other tangled up diversity of prayers. We are free moral agents; if wo ask aright and in harmony with his divine will and plan of salvation be is just and merciful and will grant the petition. Why do you insure your ; property against fire? Why have po- ' lice protection in Richmond? Why lock your doors at night? Why not pile the money up in one corner of the panic? wny nave watcnmen in lacto1 rles? Why have Jails and penitentiaries, if the Lord will restrain and protect. What would happen on our Mexican border if we had no protec tion? What did happen, with China , who has five hundred million and Japan 40 million. China has no protection and Japan has said, "I want to be your guardian." China had to accept If our citizens were outraged : and murdered abroad and we couldn't ; back up our protest what would happen. We would be at the mercy of ev- ' arv arrmaA v arrnanlnar natlin Th wa V ' to save wars and cost of wars is to have the other fellow afraid of us. Germany had too much preparation; . China had too little.- - The President appointed a day for the entire United States to pray for the war to stop. The combined world prayed for Garfield and he died. God never will do anything for you that i you can do for yourself. It is not what it costs to make and maintain a ' navy and army, but what would it cost, if we did not have one. What did it cost helpless Gelgian wives and daughters, property burned. and pillaged. What had Belgium done to incur this slaughter. Don't you suppose these people prayed for protection? Why didn't Germany go right on to France? Was it because they prayed louder and better? No, it was protection. I am a firm believer in the efficiency of prayer, but it must be In harmony with God's divine will. ARTHUR BROOKS. CARLOS, IND. LESS MEAT IF BACK AND KIDNEYS HURT Take a glass of Salts to flush Kidneys If Bladder bothers you Drink lots of water. Eating meat regularly eventually produces kidney trouble in some form or other, says a well-known authority, because the uric acid in meat excites the kidneys, they become overworked; get sluggish; clog up and cause all sorts of distress, particularly backache and misery in the kidney region; rheumatic twinges, severe headaches, add stomach, constipation, torpid liver, sleeplessness, bladder and urinary irrltatlon. The moment your back hurts or kidneys aren't acting right, or if bladder bothers you. get about four ounces of Jad Salts from any good pharmacy; take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast tor a few days nnrt vrnir kirinan irill tli,. o - "... nvh imc. This famous salts is made from the acid of grapes and lemon Juice, combined with lithia, and has been used for generations to flush clogged kidneys and stimulate them to normal activity; also to neutralise the acids in the urine so it no longer irritates, thus ending bladder disorders. AN EASY WAY TO . INCREASE WEIGHT GOOD ADVICE FOR THIN FOLKS. The trouble; with most thin folks who wish to gain weight Is thX they Insist on drugging their stomach or stuffing It with greasy foods: rabbin on useless "flesh creams," or following some rooiisn pnysicai culture stunt, while rtfce real anise of .thinness goes untouched. You cannot; .get fat. until your digestive tract .assimilates :'. the food you eat There is a preparation known to reliable drug-gists almost everywhere which seemingly embodies the missing elements needed by the digestive organs to help them convert food into rich, fat-laden blood. This modern treatment is called Sargol and has been termed the greatest of fleshbuilders. Sargol aims through regenerative, re-constructive powers to coax the stomach and Intestines to literally soak up the fattening elements of your food and pass them into the blood, where they are carried to the starved, broken-down cells and tissues of your body. You can readily picture what result this amazing transformation should produce as with increased weight the cheeks fill out. hollows about neck, shoulders and bust disap pear and from 10 to 20 pounds of solid, healthy flesh is added to the body. Sargol is absolutely harmless, inexpensive, efficient. All leading druggists of this vicinity hi.ve it. and will refund your money if you are not satisfied, as per the guarantee found in every package. NOTE Sargol is recommended only as a flesh builder and while excellent results in cases of nervous indigestion, etc., have been reported care should be taken about using it unless a gain of weight is desired.
