NUTTER DENIES ACCUSATION OF EMBEZZLEMENT
"A charge of embezzlement has been filed against L. Dow Natter, until recently In charge of the Richmond branch office of the Metropolitan Life Insurance company, but he will not be arraigned until I have been Informed who his attorneys are and have had an opportunity to consult with him," said Prosecutor Reller today. It was report ed that John L. Rupe would represent the young man but the prosecutor has not been so informed up to this afternoon. Nutter, In charge of Sheriff Steen, arrived in Richmond yesterday from Parkersburg, W. Va., where he was arrested several days ago. The sheriff experienced no difficulty in having the west Virginia authorities surrender the custody of Nutter to him. Nutter says that friends in Parkersburg and Richmond will go on his bond as soon as it has been fixed.. Denies His Guilt. The young man says that he is not guilty of absconding with funds of the insurance company. He admits that he was short a small amount in his accounts, but that this shortage would have been provided for by this time if the insurance company had not in terfered. Prosecutor Reller states that the representatives of the insurance com pany 'have informed him that Nutter is short about $1,300. After his arrest in Parkersburg Nutter was permitted his liberty until the arrival of Sheriff Steen. He is well known in that city, bis former home and the residence of his wife, and bore an excellent reputa tion while living there. Sheriff Steen says. BRIDGE NOT READY FOR IMMEDIATE USE More than a week will be required before the temporary bridge at Main street is ready for traffic, according to the contractors who are at work on the structure. The bridge proper Is almost completed. Contractor Smith was to have had the bridge completed November 23, but belated arrival of piling and machinery prevented the men from beginning work as soon as anticipated. John Duke has the fill on the east side completed, but has not begun work on the west side. The floor has not been laid, and the Traction company is laying the tracks on the bridge. Contractor Duke was given ten clays to complete the work on the Alls and approaches after the bridge is completed. He said today that the approaches will be ready for traffic by December H. LITTLE RELIEF WORK DONE IN 2 MONTHS Less relief has been given the poor of the township during the last two months than has been given during the same time for many years, according to Township Trustee Edgerton. Last year, more than thirty tons of coal was given during the months of October and November, while this year only ten tons have been given. Calls for relief have been made by only sixty families during the last two months. The trustee attributes this condi
tion to the fact that few men are out of work and health conditions are bet

DISCUSS BUILDING
The proposed $100,000 addition to Garfield school and the teachers' pension law. were the principal subjects which came before the board of education at its last meeting. Details of building were discussed but no action was taken. Superintendent Giles said. . IF SCHOOLS Continued From Pag One. tate Is the fact ever apparent that every teacher having paid her assessments Into the pension fund, 'on the first year that she ceases to teach, takes out every dollar that she had put in. Then If she becomes a pensioner and continues to draw the same amount during some ten or more additional years of her "expectancy of life," all the money after the first year must come from the state tax, less the interest on the assessments unused in the earlier years of the administration of the law. The "gifts, legacies, et.," are likely to be a negligible quantity. Whatever money is used for annuities out of the tax received from the state must, of course, be made up by an increase in the local school tax. The sentiment for a teachers' pension is stong In many states, and more than ten states, besides many cities now have a law In operation. The work of the teacher is considered of most unusual value; it is accounted exhausting, and prostrating to the nerves while the preparation for the work is IF YOU NEED A MEDICINE YOU SHOULD HAVE THE BEST. Although there are hundreds of preparations advertised, there is only one that really stands out pre-eminent as a remedy for diseases of the kidneys, liver and bladder. IN SUCH PAIN WOMAN CRIED Suffered Everything Until Restored to Health by Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. Florence, So. Dakota. I used to be very sick every month with bearing down pains and backache, and had headache a good deal of the time and very little appetite. The pains were so bad that I used to sit right down on the floor and cry, because it hurt me so and I could not do any work at those times. An old wo man advised me to try Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound and I got a bottle. I felt better the next month so I took three more bottles of it and got well so I could work all the time. I hope every woman who suffers like I did will try Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. "Mrs. P.W.Ijakseng, Box 8, Allyn, Wash. expensive, extending over the entire course of the high school, with two years of college work, besides experience In teaching, before a teacher can receive an appointment to our Richmond schools. Even when admitted t6 the schools, constant study and attendance at good training schools are necessary to keep up with the general progress of education. All these facts are given to show the demands made upon the resources of the teacher. The board would be most happy to see the teachers who work on to the retirement age receive this appreciation of their services, provided the amount of the pension is found reasonable and provided the community realises the exact provisions of the law. We are a growing city, gaining some what in population and much faster In wealth, and by the time 1927 rolls around the assessment list of Richmond will be much larger than at present, and an additional levy may not work a hardship.
