SERVIANS FIGHT ALONG SITNICA RIVER POSITIONS

BERLIN, Nor. 26. Battles are now being fought with the retreating Servians, iouthwest of the Sltnlca river, near the Montenegran frontier. The German war office In its official report today stated that the Servian rear guard that tried to stem the advance of von Mackensen's army was driven back. Van Mackensen was mentioned by name In the report of Balkan operations for the first time in many days. The absence of his name strengthened the report that he had gone to the Dardanelles. The Russian army which will attack Bulgaria numbers 250,000 men and is concentrated at Ismal and Reni, near the Roumanian frontier, acording to advices received today. Odessa will be its base of supplies.

DEFENDANTS ADMIT CHARTERING VESSELS

NEW YORK. Nov. 26. Acording to their present plans, the attorneys for Karl Buenz and other employes of the Hamburg-American line on trial In the United States District court for conspiracy will offer no defense. They say they are confident of acquittal as the case now stands. The shipping men could not offer much In defense, since William Rand, Jr., chief counsel for Buenz, has admitted practically all the facts introduced by Roger Wood, assistant district attorney, In charge of the case. That the ships were chartered by the Hamburg-American interests, that they were coaled and provisioned, and that they supplied German warships has been admitted by the defense. That Captain Boy-Ed handed out the money is also conceded. The defendants base their confidence on the views attributed to Secretary of State Lansing two days ago that the acts alleged and admitted constituted no breach of International law and no attempt to involve this country. They believe the charges against them have simmered down to nothing more serious than violation of the customs regulations.
