POLO PLAYERS EXHIBIT GLASS IN FIRST WORK

Fry and Quigley Handle Pill With Old-Time Skill, Driving Clever Shots Into the Nets. -

The polo season was informally opened last night at the Coliseum when the A. S. M., -which will probably represent Richmond this year, played a practice game with the Keystones, The score is a matter of little moment (or the game was simply a worlc"out, but it developed one thing of great importance, and that is that Richmond has a wonderful aggregation of players which has not gone back. All the boys handled that little old pill in mid-season form and they had It working to their liking. Harrison Fry is just as fast as he ever was, if not faster. Guyer played like a veteran and entered into the game as though he was fighting for a championship. He was all over the floor and followed the ball closely. Some of his shots for goal were made from difficult angles but he handled his club in splendid form. Sox Qulgley Stars. Sox Quigley was the real star of the night and he didn't try. He don't have to. His playing is so finished that all the other boys on the floor appear to be working hard while Sox is apparently making no effort. It is really a pleasure to watch Quigley work for he plays a clean and clever game. Lou Quigley put up a mlshty clever game last night and shot the ball into the net with force. His work at first rush was strong. Evans showed great form in bandling the ball In the open and with Minor and Kem assisting pulled off some clever work. The men lined up as follows: A. S. M.: Lou Quigley, first rush; Evans, center; Minor, half; Kem, goal. Keystones: Guyer, rtrst rush; Willlams, second ruBh; Sox Quigley. center; Willlamo, half; O'Metz, goal.

TAKE PRECAUTION TO PRESERVE FISH

The officers of the Wayne County Fish and Game Protective association are going to take every precaution to prevent a repetition of the accident to the hatching pond south of the jity last year when thousands of young tlsh were allowed to escape. Arrangements are being made by the association to lease the Knollenberg pond and the lake will be guarded closely to prevent vandals from opening the dam

and allowing the fish to escape. Suffered Twenty-One Years Finally Found Relief Having suffered for twenty-one years with a pain in my side, I finally have found relief in Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root. Injections of morphine were my only relief for short periods of time. I became so sick that I had to undergo a surgical operation in New Orleans, which enefited me for two years. When the same pain came back one day I was so sick that I gave up hopes of living. A friend advised me to try your Swamp-Root and I at once commenced using it. The first bottle did me so much good that I purchased two more bottles. 1 am now on my second bottle and am feeling like a new woman. I passed a gravel stone as large as a big red bean and several small ones. I have not had the least feeling of pain since taking your Swamp-Root and I feel it my duty to recommend this great medicine to all suffering humanity. Gratefully yours, MRS. JOSEPH CONSTANCE, Rapides Par. Echo, La. Personally appeared before me. this 13th day of July. 1911, Mrs. Joseph Constance, who subscribed the above statement and made oath that the same is true in substance and in fact. WM. MORROW. Richmond 137 Opponents 48 Games played . 3 Games won , 0 In the three games played and won the Richmond high school team has more than threbled the number of points made by Its opponents. The most gratifying feature of the team's record in the early season games is that the strongest foe made fewer points than were made by Mooreland In the opening game, while Richmond piled up a larger score than against Winchester. Here is what the team has done: Richmond 57, Mooreland 20; Richmond 30, Winchester 9 ; Richmond 50, Anderson 19. Mooreland is the only team which will be entered in the district tournament. Anderson is a contender for the state title. Winchester Is not in this district and is not strong enough to make a bid for honors. Promises Great Future. Barring accidents and reversal of form, it would appear that Richmond has the edge on anything in the district. If the boys keep their heads, do not become overconfident, and train, there is no reason why they should not represent the Sixth district at the tournament at Bloomington and return victors. Games during the next two weeks will furnish some valuable dope. Tonight the team journeys to Connersville. This is the first game away from home. While victory is expected, the boys need not look -for a cinch. With a hostile crowd and a strange floor, the sledding will be harder. Connersville can be expected to put up a stiff defense, so overconfidence as the result of the Anderson game will have no place in the Richmond line-up. Winchester at Winchester Friday night should cause little worry, but a reversal of form such as was shown in the game here would be a murky blot on the team's record. New Castle is Strong. New Castle appears to be the most formidable foe in the district. But the Henry county boys fell before Anderson by a few points, while Richmond swamped Anderson here. This does not mean, however, that New Castle will prove an easy foe. Just to show that they still know something about the game, the Rose City squad trampled Pendleton by a 33-9 score in their last, time out. Rusbville cancelled the game with Richmond, but got into the melee against Liberty Friday losing 25-24. While either of these teams may prove a contender for district honors, it is

doubtful whether they could withstand the attack presented hy Richmond last Friday. Brookville remains' a dark horse.

Richmond is booked to take on the

state championship Thorntown Five, soon, when the team's real worth will be tested. Thorntown presents practically a veteran lineup having lost only one man by graduation. On early season predictions Richmond is picked as the favorite in the district race.

BANKERS CONTINUE CLIMB TOWARD TOP

The Bankers won two out of three from the I. H. C. last night in the Business Men's League race. There were no high scores rolled except by Melhuish who played a steady game throughout. NOHR RELEASES HERBIE LOGAN; STOCK SLUMPS Deprives Team of Services of Experienced Coach and Player at Crucial Point in Development. Stock in the high school basketball team slumped decidedly today when it was learned that the boys had been deprived of the services of Herbert Logan as assistant coach. Head Coach Nohr made announcement to this effect to the squad at practice last night. Mr. Nohr did not assign any reason for his action. It is known that Logan was willing to continue coaching the team, which under his direction had shown an increased knowledge of the game and a new brand of pep and fight. Mr. Logan's services were entirely voluntary in accordance with the rules of the State High School Athletic association. The question which arises' is whether the team will continue to go for

ward now or whether it will suffer a backset when deprived of the guidance of an experienced player. Last j

year the squad, consisting or practically the same men, lacked the punch to make it a winner in the pinches. Many of the finer points of the game, which can only be imparted by a coach who is also a veteran and experienced player, were unknown to them. This same weakness was shown in the first game of the season. The boys played the floor in a bunch, did not cover their opponent, did not follow the ball and presented anything but a versa-. tile attack. Improvement Shown. Compare this with the play Friday night. The attack was dazzling and bewildering, new plays were executed with speed and confidence, in short, the game was played with consummate skill, which showed the guidance of an experienced player, one who knows the game from having been in many conflicts. Logan's coaching has filled a need which players on high school teams have felt and which has been commented on quite generally Jsy players and critics. Coach Nohr has the boys in splendid physical condition as the result of his training as a physical director. His recognized ability along this line, coupled with Herbert Logan's experience and knowledge of basketball, would turn out a team that nothing in the state could stop, especially with the material at hand. The players were discouraged last night when they were informed that Logan would not be with them anymore. Connersville and Winchester should prove easy, but what of New Castle and Thorntown, whose teams know the game as taught by experienced players? In the Four Counties Ian, in England it is possible to eat in Leicestershire, sleep in Staffordshire, drink in Warwickshire and smoke in Derbyshira without leaving the building.

L. L. Letter is the latest entry in the cross country run to be held by the Y. M. C. A., on Thanksgiving day. This makes eleven boys who have entered the race but more are expected to come in at the, last moment. At last twenty starters are expected. QUAKERS WORK HARD

That Quaker basket ball team which isis credited as the fastest aggregation in the state will line up against the Crescents of Indianapolis Friday night at the Coliseum on a real basketball game. While the Quakers are fast and know their speed they are not wasting their time on past performances but are getting out every night and taking lots of practice. Over confidence has lost many a game but the local boys are keeping away from that stuff and are preparing themselves for a hard and strenuous game.
