CHARITY APPEAL MEETS SUCCESS FORFIHST DAY With 60 Per Cent of Subscribers Unsolicited, Canvassers Report Raisin? of $1,850. "The campaisn for fund to, finance the Wayne County Social service bureau's work during the coming year was an unqualified success," said Fred White, chairman of the committee of seventy-five business men who made the canvass yesterday. "Only a few of the committees made complete reports yesterday but an analysis of the figures shows that it was much easier to raise the money this year than it was last year." Many of the committees are continuing tiie work today. There were about 7S0 men to see yesterday and the committee were only able to solicit 207 of this number. Only IS of last year's subscribers failed to renew their subscriptions and 71 new subscribers were added to the list. The following figures have been compiled by Secretary Melpolder to show the result of yesterday's canvass: Subscribers last year 550. Subscribers canvassed this year 207. Former subscribers falling to renew 18. New subscribers 71Per cent, of loss of old subscribers 7 1-8 per cent. Per cent, of gain of new subscribers 30. Amount of loss ot old subscribers $78,75. Amount of gain of new subscribers $359.50. Per cent, of subscribers not visited 80. Average amount of subscriptions $7.75.
