Hagerstown defeated Richmond yesterday 6-0 in a football game that was featured by the hard tackling and defensive work of both sides. The teams were evenly matched but

at that Richmond should have won of

at least tied the score. During the first period the locals had the ball on Hagersto-vn's one yard ' line but. were held for downa. A line plunge would have made the distance but Darnell tried to take it around the end losing fifteen yards and the ball. Hagerstown made its goal in the third period. Darnell attempted' forward pass to Shunn. Johnson intercepted it and with a clear field before score. Jamison missed the goal. Straight football was used mostly by both elevens and at this style of work they were able to .-hold, each other to comparatively small gains. Hampton's work stood out particularly for he seldom failed to made a good gain' whenever 'given the ball. . The entire team showed a decided improvement over the work against Rushville. The lineup:

GUG9AT PICKS: .mm to rail? JESS 17ILLARD

Gunboat Smith, heavyweight pugilist, with championship aspirations, passed through Richmond Saturday en route to the Pacific coast where he anticipate getting several matches. While Smith said be had hopes of being at the top of his class he did not think that time would arrive for a year or two as he is not heavy enough but hoped to be in that time. He predicted that if Moran did not take the championship from Jess willard that he would be greatly astonished aa Moran has everything that Willard has and is a bear for punishment. "V "Willard," said 8mith, "will have to be far cleverer, than he was in his fight with Jack Johnson, for. Moran is still a young man and there are few that are better ring generals than he. He is as strong as an ox. has a punch in either hand that would kill a bull and unlike most of the heavies Moran can hit from either side with equal force and is fast on his feet"

Earlham's oaabethaU schedule has not been completed, but in general the same teams will be played aa last year. Two games will be played before Christmas, one with Wilmington college and the other with Purdue. On January 7 and t games will be played with the Central, Normal . at Danville, and Indiana Dental college at Indianapolis. -The following week will see the first home game with Indiana State Normal. Prospects are bright for a - strong team, as Winslow, Meeks Quigg and Morrlsh of last year'a five ere eligible. Castle, who was the high school allstate forward last year; Rees, Smith, Goldner and Reth all "have good reputations, and there appears plenty- of material with which to build a team.
