UNION COUNTY NATIONAL BANK OPENSJJILDiNG County Commissioner! Awtrd Contract for the Bridges at Dunl&psrille and Brownsville.

. LIBERTY, Ind., Nor. 9. The Union County National Bank building which baa undergone - reconstruction was opened with a reception to the public Saturday, Nov. 6. The rooms were decorated In rosea, carnations and pot ted plans. Favors of rosea and car nations were given away. To the depositors of the bank were given leather card cases and bill books along with a booklet containing a short resume of the career of the bank from Its or ganlzatlon in 1870 until the present time. This booklet was dedicated to the original stockholders, J E. Morris. W. M. Clark. J. C. Kitchen, A. H. Campbell, Henry Shriner, James Smith and Z. H. Stanley. The exterior of the bank is blue Bedford stone with band carved trimmings. The Interior of the lobby and the cashier's desks are finished in marble and mahogany. The consultation rooms and directors room are finished In mahogany with draperies of silk velour and imported oriental Kirmanshaw rugs. The bank is a "Roll of Honor Bank" being first In the Indiana State Roll and number 137 in tbe roll of the United States. Bridge Contracts Let. The bids for the contracts of the bridges to be constructed at Dunlapsville and Brownsville were opened by Auditor G. W. Wray before the count commissioners one day last - week. Out of the four bidders for the job, William Watt obtained the contract for the Brownsville bridge with a bid of $240.00. For the DunlapsviUe bridge the contract was given to Vernon Bros, and Stinson, their bid being $295 00. Picture Theatre Opened. . The "Gem" Motion Picture theatre which has been closed for some time, has been remodeled and will be opened by Harry Shriner this week. Mr. Shriner has added a new machine, new chairs and other accessories and expects to open for business Monday evening. ' - Pigman Je Elected. At tbe recent semi-annual meeting of tbe District Medical association at Rushvllle, Dr. Garrett Pigman was elected secretary. Both physicians are from this place. HORSE WANTS TO SEE HIS OLD DYING MASTER

PETERSBURG. Ind., Nov. 8 While Riley Lane, Petersburg's oldest business man, laying dying, watchers at his bedside were startled by a noise at the door. When the door wag opened, Dobbins, an old horse, which was much thought of by Lane, walked in. The aged horse stood at Lane's bedside until led away by tbe watchers. It is a mystery bow the animal escaped from tbe stable.

Germany several months ago to give pro-German lectures in this country. Several weeks ago she asked for a re

newal of her passport, saying that she

desired to visit Germany to be near

her fiance, an officer in the German army. Meanwhile the British agents

bad advised the state department that Miss Beveridge had misused her passport-by carrying messages from the German foreign office in Berlin to Rome. Miss Beveridge denied the accusations, but Secretary Lansing or

dered that the passoprt be held up.

The deceased was a victim of paralysis and died at 4 o'clock Friday at hie home. Some time - ago he suffered a stroke, but recovered and " was about

his home as usual when stricken the

second time. Besides bis widow he is survived by five children, Mrs. George Dunlap, Kokomo; J. C. Shaw, southwest of Eaton; Mrs. Ella Steele, Eaton; Grand Shaw, Albuquerque. N. M.; and Mrs. E. P. Conger, 'Trinidad,' COL The late Drfl A. C. Shaw of this city, was another son. The deceased was bom in Mt. Carmel, Ind., but for sixty years bad resided in Preble county. He was a veteran of the Civil war.
