LAST YEAR'S RULES GOVERN BASKETBALL
Th Indiana High , School Athletic atsociation at Its meeting In Indianapolis Friday, decided to uae last year's basketball rules, making no changes whatever, excepting the rule regarding dribbling,, and the locals will work under these conditions. Winchester plays here Friday night et the Coliseum and the Richmond pecond team plays Mooreland high at Mooreland on the same evening. In the opening game with .Mooroland Richmond played tinder the new rules and they were slightly handicapped on that account, but playing under the old style the local boys, with their last year's experience to back them up, should snow Winchester under. Holding Rule. The rule regarding holding has been given a liberal interpretation and applies only to the player with the ball and bis guarding opponent. There is no legal way of stopping a man by bodily contact and the only correct way to play him la frdtr iB; front or alongside of him. It is practically impossible to guard a man legally from behind. According to the new rulea charging is prohibited and there can be no stopping of a man getting into the play by blocking, as in football. In order to clear the way for a teammate with the ball, nor can a player with the ball straight-arm or "bump" a guarding opponent out of the way. Xo player can legally bump into or charge another player who is between him and the goal or is closer to the goal and is in the act of throwing the ball. Until this addition was made to the rules there was no adequate provision for protecting the player who by speed or strategy bad got to a position between his guard and the goal, and therefore had won an' opportunity for an unrestricted shot. This rule means that when a man gets the ball down the floor he is entitled to a chance for goal without interference. The new rules relating to the dribble are, of course, of no interest hero, as the team will work under, last year's regulations, as decided by the State Athletic association.
The Hagerstown Huts outclassed the Hoosier Dixies of Cambridge City in their contest Sunday afternoon. Hagerstown was able to gain a touchdown in the fir6t three minutes of play and not once was Cambridge City able to hold Hagerstown for downs. The last half of play the Hubs used
substitutes and it was only toward the
last of the fourth period that Cambridge was able to score. The game end?d with the Bcore 24 to 6 favoring the Hubs.
The Hubs play the Richmond Inde
pendent team here Sunday. Nov. 7.

RICHMOND'S ELEVEN BOOKS FOUR TEAMS FOR COUNTY HONORS
After the initial game at Rushville Sunday, when they were defeated 25
to 0, the Richmond. Independent football backers feel confident that they have a strong aggregation and intend to keep the boys busy until the end of the season. It was the intention to bring a strong eleven here next Snuday to play at Athletic park, but the management decided it would be better for the boys to play another game out of town and get them seasoned before they play before a local crowd. On November 7 a series will be started for the county championship. Richmond, Hagerstown, Cambridge City and Williamsburg will participate. On that day Cambridge City, will play here, and the following Sunday Richmond will go to Hagerstown, but the game will not figure in the series. Hagerstown will play here November 21, and on Thanksgiving day Richmond will play on the home grounds, but which team in - the race it will contest with is not known at the present, and will not be until after the series has started and a few games have bee;playj2ii- ,;' ff -.: "jUagy-t-v-J- i i1i.tmi.ri j-i ..
