NEW FOOTBALL UPSETS DOPE IN BIG TEAMS

NEW YORK, Oct. 28. Cornell, Princeton and Pittsburg alone have survived the first weeks of terrific gridiron duelling, and as the trio prepared for their battle Saturday the questi. . arose: Which of the three will be ultimate champion which will go through the season unbeaten?

No football season in history has furnlsheu so many surprising upsets; no season ever brought about the elimination of all but three contenders before the sixth week of the campaign opened. Harvard is out of the fight due to Its beating at the hands of Cornell;; Vale has been beaten twice by "minor" elevens; Pennsylvania has suffered two -defeats; Syracuse was humbled by Princeton; the Army eleven lost to Coleate: Navv was crushed by Pitts

burg; Dartmouth went down to defeat

its tvo tlmo-honored foet Washington and Jefferson on the sixth and Pennsylvania State on Thanksgiving Day. But those two Pitt rivala rank right cow among the most powerful in the East, W. & J., if you'll recollect, crushed Yale last week while Penna State, earlier in the year, beat the heavy Pennsylvania eleven, 10 to 3. Cornell, therefore, seems to have the "edge" on its two rivals for the championship honors, but what does an "edge" amount to in these days when the new rules have provided all teams with an emery wheel that can grind off edges in a speedy and startling fashion?

BOWLING 222 SCORE ZEYEN TAKES HONORS

Three straight games were won by the Tipperarys over the Santa Marias in the Kaysee league race at the City alleys last night. Santa Maria made a desperate effort to get away with every game but their rivals were just a little stronger and beat them to it in every frame. Zeyen was sending

On the sixth of November Cornell grapples with "Hurry-Up" Yost's warriors in Michigan, and. on past performances, Cornell should win by a comfortable margin. On the thirteenth Cornell goes against. Washington and Lee, which hasn't made much of a noise in the football world this year and Cornell finishes its season on Thanksgiving Day against the twice-beaten and once tied Pennsylvania outfit. Princeton and Pittsburg, on the other hand, still have to face their mightiest foes. On the sixth the Tiger goes against Harvard and on the thirteenth it tackles Yale. On form, Princeton ought to beat Harvard, but Harvard always seems to have the "number" of Princeton, and it wouldn't be surprising if Harvard beat Princeton. The Tigers ought to triumph over the much-chewed Bulldog, but that dratted hound has a habit of coming back in an amazing way for its two big games tf the year, and it might surprise itself and the football world by performing the miraculous trick of beating the Tigers. Pittsburg's eleven this year is one of the mightiest that ever trod a gridiron, and, on form it ought to beat

JEFF SHOWS CLASS WITH GOOD PROSPECT

OF ATTAINING FAME

Tomorrow night the big fight between Ray Jeffries and Tommy Gary will be held at Dayton, and a number of local fans are making arrangements

to be present.

Special coaches will leave over the

Pennsylvania at 4:40 o'clock, and it is expected to carry a big bunch of Jeffries rooters,. Jeff has Improved so fast that he is really now in the "class," and it will take a mighty good boy to beat him. Last year the loval boxer was a novice, but still a scrapper, while today he is there with almost everything that is needed and can take care of himself with the best .of them. . Ten rounds is the greatest distance that Jeff has ever stepped, but tomorrow night he goes fifteen, and it will be a try-out for him that wil be interesting.

Reading your ad In the Minnesota Journal 4 months ago I got a 50-cent box from Grand Forks and followed your directions up to time of writing. I am reading now without glasses as in toy position as railroad passenger locomotive engineer we must have good sight. Of course, I only used the glasses In reading as I run from Neche, N. Laid Aside Glasses I wish to express my satisfaction with your treatment and exercises which I believe, will benefit anyone when properly used. Distance Glasses Discarded "I Can Count the Fluttering Leaves ..on Trees Across the Street." I have been usng Optona for the past two months about 4 times "a day. I have followed the directions and feel greatly benefited by the use of Optona. Began to feel the benefit in a very few days after beginning treatment I was bothered with eyestrain caused by overtaxing tired eyes, which, of course, induced fierce headaches. I havo worn glasses for several years, both for distance- and work and without them I could not read my own name on an envelope or the typewriting on the machine before me. I caln do both easily now and have discarded my long distance glasses altogether. I can count the fluttering leaves on the trees across the street now, which for several years have looked like a dim' green blur to me. I cannot express my Joy at what it has done for me. I am writing on typewriter on an average of five hours every day, sometimes eight, so you can see I can appreciate what Optona has done for me. Mrs. F. C. Gossow, Mill Creek, Okla.
