Mr. and Mrs. Will Mustln of near Dublin, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hale, Wednesday. ' .The Embroidery club held a called meeting with Mrs. H. D. Huddleston, Wednesday ; afternoon concerning some interests of the club. - .- 'Edgar, Beeson was at Connersville on business Wednesday. " Wesley Newton has a swollen face caused by a severe attack . of toothache. Mrs. Theodore Crist entertained Mesdames W. E. Williams, H. H. Heist, Vene Beeson, O. Ferguson, Misses Carrie Michael and Sarah Roberts Tuesday evening. Cider, sandwiches and cake furnished tbe luncheon. ' Hiss Barbara Kern bad as her guests, Mr. and Mrs. Esta Herschey and tbe Rev. and Mrs. Harry Herschey of Dayton, Tuesday. Messrs. Herschey are nephews of Miss Kern. Mrs. Richard Scott of Cambridge City, was calling on friends here Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Mary Noll has gone to Columbus, Ohio, to spend the winter - with her niece, Mrs.. Nellie Woodcock and sister, Miss Bertie Neff. f Her Husband's Widow CHAPTER XXXVII. "He told me in the steamer that he had done so,", said the Baronet. "But we can find no trace of it. It's unlucky for me," he added, with a sign, ! "because we had just been reconciled after our estrangement, and he would ! no doubt, have borne that in mind. But never mind about my affairs. I ought tto offer you my belated congratulations on your marriage." "Oh," said Jenny, "the less said abcut that the better." v "Do you mean that it is your intention to keep it secret?" asked Sir Ralph. He wished he could see more of her face; but the couch on which she lay was in semi-darkness. "Unless it is absolutely necessary to reveal 'it." "Steele not anxious to, eh?" 2 "No. I don't think he is anxious she replied with ill-suppressed bitterness. "Does anyone else know about this merriage of yours beside we four ycu and he, Mrs. Varney and I?" ; "I euppcse not. .,o one in England .certainly, unless you have told them." 5- It eeemed to Jenny that the baronet y.-a: glad to hear that. T "She" reverted' to iff 3" "affairs of "the tvaineys. i "Even if tho v.i;i- is uo fcuad, I suppose everything will go to tiio boy," lihe remarked. "I thought that was the Erglish law in the ease cf landed estates." Sir Ralph seemed thoughtful. "Yes," he agreed in a dreamy tone, as if his thoughts were far away. "Since his patents' 'marriage was legal, everything -will go to the boy. Otherwise of course, everything would have come to me and to the woman who should have been my wife." He raised bis head, and in the dim light she could see him smiling at her. "What a lucky thing for Leslie Varney that you should have appeared - just in time to upset that previous , marriage with Steele," he added after a pause. Jenny shifted uneasily on her couch. "I wonder if she blesses me for my intervention," she said. "I very much doubt if she would have called mi in if she had anticipated her husband's death. You see, she is in love with him. I'm sure of it, in spite of the way she insulted him. I watched her face. Her bitterness wasn't all due to Varney's suspicions. She was cut to the quick by Victor's perfidy, as she would look upon it. I remember how she took it in the British Museum when I first told her. "Well," she smiled maliciously, "I seem to be in everybody's way her's, Victor's and yours." . Sir Ralph seemed to be weighing her words. "You think she is still in love with him?" he murmured. "Sure. But, you see, I'm here, and she doesn't get him." Her voice rang out triumphantly. It was a long time before he spoke again. "It seems to me," he said "that you are standing in your own way as much as in anyone else's." "Why so?" Sir Ralph raised his eyebrows, sur- ; prised at her obtuseness. "I am astonished that a clever woman like you cannot see that. You have declared that you are tied for life to a penni- . less officer who doesn't went to live with you, and who loves, or at least is loved by another woman. To prevent him and that woman coming together which they would be unlikely to do in any case you throw away your chance of marrying a baronet with the longest rent roll in Kent, and incidenGreat Demand for New j Constipation Remedy j """"" """""BWiswssBSMBsas They say that the advent of ths "entaaal tablet" as a vegetable substitute fer calomel has resulted In an extraordinary demand for this remarkable product. It seems to have made a hit particularly with thos afflicted with chronte constipation, who were quick to recfttfnfze It advantages over calomel and the usual laxatives. Sentanel tablets, aside from thelr: affleacy, doubtless owe their success largely to a tendency to aid in bringing about natural functioning Instead of ehcourartnr the "cathartt habit." Also, instead of Injuring the mombraneous lining of thj organs Involved, they .exert a healing Influence. Instead of weakening, they add tone to the intestinal wall. And they work se cosily and , gently, they are of ourso preferred on this account to the violently acting purgatives. Their tnexeenslveness Is another' reason for the popularity of sentanel tablets. One need procure only a dime's worth, and take R1,. PU retiring, to be convinced that the ideal remedy for constipation, torpid liver, and their many evil conns ? ifuences. has finally, been found. " ' Sir Ralph Calmly . Gives Her the Lie. '- ; "You would marry Victor. Steel's wife?" He rose, came over to the couch, and stood looking down at her. , "I don't believe you are hit wife,"! he said quietly. Then he laughed softly. She shrugged her shoulders with an affectation of indifference, and, buried her cheek in her pillow, v , - "You are conspiring." went on the Baronet In deliberate tones, "with Vic tor Steele and Leslie Whatever-her-real-name-is to defraud me of my lawful inheritance.", . "And you." countered Mrs. Melas aa deliberately, "murdered Oswald Varney and stole his will, in order to defraud hia son. Sir. Ralph did not start or turn pale. He smiled a weary, puzzled smile. "I suppose Steele told you that lie," he hazarded most politely. "I rather think it was the other man his second-who satisfied ; himself on that point. : I believe he saw you put the pistol in Varney's pocket," She broke through bis guard. "He did not!" he burst out. "How did I kvow the pistol was loaded?" The admission was out before he realized how far he had contradicted himself. "Ah," she said calmly, "that has nothing to do with me." Poor Oswald must have been simple to trust himself alone with you and a pistol case. I dare say tbe story will make the round of the clubs." Wealthy Russians are buried in glass coffins. j Correcting Hair Faults And Other Aids to Beauty Dandruff, itchy scalp, thin, scraggly and falling hair are easily overcome if one will give the hair the proper attention and the proper means are employed. The first step In correcting hair faults is to have! a perfectly clean scalp, free from all grease, dirt and excess oil; then the liberal application of a good tonic every night for a few weeks will produce results that will be astonishing. To free the scalp of excess oil, dandruff and dirt, there is nothing that equals a teaspoonful of eggol disolved in a cup of hot water and used as a shampoo wash. This should be used every two weeks. ; ." ':- No better hair tonic can be made than the simple mixture of half a pint alcohol, half a pint water and one ounce of beta-quinol; this should be messaged into the scalp nightly. A few weeks of this treatment and all -hair troubles should vvanish. Blackheads should never be pinched out; this only makes large pores and does not get rid of the blackheads. The only safe and sure way Is to dissolve them. Just -get about two ounces of powdered neroxln from your druggist, sprinkle a little on a hot, wet sponge or cloth; rub briskly over the blackheads and in a few minutes you will find.. that .the blackheads have been dissolved away entirely and the skin left, without any mark whatever. Women who have rough, red hands and arms will be surprised to see how exquisite the - skin win become after a few . applications of a cream lotion made" by- dissolving one ounce of zintone in a pint of hot water, ad ding a taDiespoonml of glycerine Adv. ,
