LYRIC. Agnes Vernon is now featured in leading roles under Director Leon Kent at Universal City. Director McRae recently adopted Murdock McQuarrie's suggestion at Universal City to give Miss Vernon a chance to play at the head of her own company, and that his judgment was good Is evinced in "The . Girl of the Dance .Hall," a ' Laemmle three-reel western drama, wtitten by F. McGrew Willis and produced by Director Leon D. Kent. At the Lyric tonight.
UNDER SOUTHERN 8KIES The story of "Under Southern Skies" which plays at the Lyric tomorrow, is as follows: Lelia Crofton, a high-strung southern girl of 18, is loved by two young men, Burleigh Mavor and Steve Daubeney, both of good family and about the same age. The story opens in 1860 on Major Crof ton's vast Louisiana plantation, where Leila's eighteenth is being celebrated by a , big house party. Lelia has been brought up under the Impression that her mother died when she was only two years old. The major's two bosom friends are Colonel Mavor, an editor, and Colonel Daubeney, a politician; whose views on everything in general are always taken from an opposite standpoint. PALACE. "Trilby," plcturized by the Equitable Motion Picture corporation, with Clara Kimball .Young and Wilton Lackeye in the leading roles comes to the Palace Wednesday and Thursday. Patrons of this theatre will have their first opportunity of seeing the screen version of George Du Maurier's famous book and play, "Trilby," as produced by the EQui table corporation, under the able direction of Maurice
Tourneur, with the screen and stage's foremost dramatic stars, Clara Kimball Yaung and Wilton Lackeye, in the stellar roles. "Trilby" t in five acts and over two hundred and fifty scenes. ARCADE. Movie fans will hail with Joy the announcement of George Kleine's latest venture in filmdom, the picturlzatlon of Marie Correli's famous novel "Vendetta," the five-act feature which comes to the Arcade tomorrow afternoon and night. It would be hard to imagine a subject better adapted to the histrionic possibilities of the silent drama or one that could yield more thrills. The grewsome story of Count Fabio Romani awakening in his own coin and returning home only to find his faithless wife in the arms of his dearest friends, are story elements capable of strong expression. Incidentally,' the camera robs them of much that is unpleasant without losing any of their dramatic essentials. In "Vendetta" George Kleine has produced a picture of distinction, histrionically, scenically and photograhlc ally. It Is by all odds the best fivepart subject he has ever released and will challenge his famous "Quo Vadis" In public -favor. - Many of the scenes are staged on a" white marble palace overlooking ' the - Bay of Naples 1 and yield charming glimpses of the beautiful harbor and surrounding landscape: The work of Miss Regina Badet, especially engaged to play Nini Romani, Is delightful. .Her grace -and her exquisite deliperatness of movement demonstrate the poetry of motion.
