The fugitives are mostly old men and women and children, as all Germans, Austrians and Hungarians of military age have been sent to concentration camps between Moscow and the Ural mountains in Siberia. Almost without exception the fugitives are in a pitiable condition and penniless, although many of them formerly were very wealthy; - Escorted by Cossacks they have travelled hun dreds of miles afoot and In freight cars and their ! sufferings In most cases have been terrible. .
