1,000 Persons Will Be One Feature of - Proposed New Addition. .

Agreement was reached between the school board and three property owners on South Twelfth street yesterday afternoon by which the schools obtain - possession of land for an addition to the Garfield - building . at an expenditure of $13,750, without resort to condemnation proceedings. Deeds will be turned over shortly to give the school board possession of the tract: by Nov. 1. The properties were spld as follows: 'Mrs.- Hannah Swift, fifty feet X adjoining ' Garfield, $7,,00 ; Mrs. i Lavenia Nixon,5 25 feet, $2,500; Mrs. Clara Mendenhall, 25 feet, $3,760. All lots have a. depth of 150 feet. ' ; , jr School officials already have In mind the nature of the addition to the Garfield building which will cost: approximately $100,000. The structure' will be of firepreof construction, with fifteen or sixteen rooms, two gymnasiums, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,000 persons. - With such a . ball. Superintendent ; Giles ' said " the schools could handle their own commencements instead of being compelled to engage an outside auditorium. The building will be, two stories with a basement. School officials hope to occupy the addition shortly after the first of 1917. Upon its completion the first year of the high school will be taught there.

Farmers residing near Economy and Carlos City are on the watch today . for a man who robbed the home of Walter Engle, five miles northeast of Economy yesterday. A " Mrs. Engle was alone in her home at noon when the man appeared, and
after locking the kitchen door asked for money and jewelry. She -refused to disclose the valuables. The burglar ransacked the second floor while the woman after: placing her child in bed, filled a. bucket with boiling water. f When the robber returned he had - a gold . bracelet : and a gun. ' Coerced by the gun, the woman handed over her wallet. As the robber; left she hurled ,the hot water over him, putting him to flight: ;' - - ' She " followed . him through an orchard and to a woods where he. dropped the gun. Mrs. Engle heized the weapon and forced the robber to return the valuables. ' . T' ". Her husband and a hired man - who were working In a field heard her screams and -soon a posse wasprganized to . take ' up the - pursuit v' which proved without results. Mrs.' Engle Is only 20 years old. '

The Tribuna at Rome announces that the monument raised in Trent, Austria, to the memory of Dante, the great Italian poet and considered to be a masterpiece of sculpture, has been demolished by the Austrians in order' that the bronze may be used for cannon.
