. A,VE ft ALAN T. . GENERAL -I'LL POINT OOT THE PLACE) OF NTEEVT-ON00 THE NEW V.OUK1 HOUSE. ; SWINDLER DECEIVES 'ZURICH, Sept. 21. The Rome Corriere d'ltala recently reported, lhat an irredentist by ' the . name of Mattuccl had deserted from an Austrian regiment at. Pola. The deserted claimed that be swam through the Adriatic from Pola to Orado. For this feat he was decorated and attached to an Italian regiment with the rank of sergeant. His picture was published by all Italian newspapers with glowing tributes for his bravery. The Gorriere Delia Sera of Milan now states that the alleged hero has been expelled from the Italian regiment and arrested as a plain swindler. After he received his decoration the Italian authorities found that the swimming feat, which he clr.imed to have accomplished, is a physical impossibility, as the distance from Pola to Grado Is seventy-five English miles.
