i in prison gal:ps i irrVJUERTBlDERG l -BY FRED SHELDON.' (BERLIN. Sept. 2L The exchange of Oermaa and French prisoners of war, privates' who4 have been permafnently incapacitated for military serjvlce; of officer and non-commissioned jofflcen who have lost anna or legs j and of sanitary troops, has now become systematized, and every morn'ing at 7:30 o'clock a train of prlsonjers leaves here for Lyons ria Switzerlland. f A few days ago I had an opportunity to Interview five French bosjpital corps men who had expressed a (wish to remain in Germany "until the fwar Is over. I asked each of them why he did not wish to return, and fin each case the answer was the same. f"My wife has asked me to remain where I am." - !One of them who was a little more explicit said: My wife wrote me that our first parting had been sad enough. J and she simply couldn't bear the Idea
'of having me come home only to nave
o part from me again.
Visits All Camps. Thanks to the courtesy of the gov
fornment of Wuertemberg, I have been permitted to - visit a number of prison camps after I had given my word of bonor that I would represent the facts
as I have ; found them, and I have
lepent all' week traveling from one kcamp to another accompanying Lieu
tenant General von Rampacher, who
Inspected all these camps unannounced. Every visit began 'With ;a long
conversation between the commander
In charge of the camp and the inspecting general, who asked Innumerable Questions and ordered , such changes
made as he considered necessary. Af
ter being present at these interviews J
(was given permission to' apeak to any
prisoner I wanted to, and was allowed
tree access to all parts of the camps.
. I saw the list of punishments inflicted upon unruly or disobedient prisoners, the poBtoiflce lists . of letters and parcels received and the receipts given for these by the prisoners. . I also examined the daily bill of fare, and every where I found evidence proving that
the officials are, honestly endeavoring to treat the interned in the most hu
mane manner. ! In the three large camps I visited
the French prisoners complained that Ithey were not given enough bread. At
first they had received a ! pound of
bread a day, but , then the ration was j cut down to 300 grams, and they only 'looked upon this as a punishment they
had not deserved. Great' was their
(astonishment, therefore, when, show.
ing them my own . bread card, I told them that no adult person In Germany at present received more than 240 grams of bread a day. At. Muensingen. a Russian prisoner showed us a piece, of bread he had received the day before and said that It was inedible. General von Rampacher examined it and admitted that the complaint was just. The bread was heavy - and very mouldy. The commander of the camp was called and showed us a copy of a letter in which he had complained that the entire delivery made to him the day
before was bad.

BERLIN, Sept. 21. Five English soldiers under the leadership of Sergeant James Johnstone recently made their escape from the prison camp at Doeberitx. Three of the fugitives were recaptured three days later near Madgeburg. They were completely exhausted and almost dead from hunger. No trace has been found of Johnstone and the other two. They seem to have reached the Dutch frontier.

URIC ACID IN MEAT CLOGS THE KIDNEYS Take a Glaas of Salts If Your Back Hurts -or Bladder Bothers You Drink More Water.
If you have your meat every day. eat it, but flush your kidneys with salts occasionally, says .a . noted authority who tells us that meats form uric acid which almost paralyzes the kidneys in their efforts to expel it from the blood. They become sluggish and weaken, then you suffer with a dull misery in the kidney region, sharp pains in the back or sick headache, dizziness, your stomach sours, tongue is' coated and when the weather is bad you have rheumatic twinges. The urine gets cloudy, full of sediment, the channels often get sore and irritated, obliging you to seek relief two or three times during the night To neutralize these irritating acids, to cleanse the kidneys-and flush off the body's urinous waste, get four ounces of Jad Salts from any. phar
macy here; take a tablespoonful In a
glass of water before breakfast for a few days and your kidneys will then act- fine. This famous salts is made from the acid of grapes and lemon Juice, combined with lithia, and has been used for generations to flush and
stimulate sluggish kidneys, also to neu
tralize the acids in urine, so it no long

Jad Solts is inexpensive; can not injure, and makes a delightful efferves
