PAUPER ATTORNEY APPROPRIATION MADE
T " A ' plan was proposed by members of the county council to combine the office of pauper attorney and county attorney, ' thereby saving " the county $40O a year, In the salary of the pauper attorney. It was t stated at the meeting that the pauper-attorney did not have enough work to warrant the expenditure of this amount of money. Judge Fox was called into conference, and he stated that he is required to appoint a pauper attorney under constitutional authority. As a result of his statements,, the council reconsidered the action they had taken Monday, afternoon in refusing the appropriation, and included $400 in the budget of expenses for .1916. The
salary had been reduced to $200 by
the council Monday. - "No respectable attorney can be.seicured to take over these cases," Said the judge. "I have found that it is cheaper to pay an attorney a yearly salary than it is to pay fees whenever a pauper case comes up."
