NEW PARIS, Ohio, Aug. 27. Mr. Nancy A. Walley entertained Thursday Mrs. C. R. McClure and daughter, Eva, and Miss Jessie Mailin, of MarJon, Ind.. A fine well for the new centralized school building has just been completed by Clarence Emrick, well driller, of Eldorado, Ohio. Thirty-ive feet of water is reported. The Richmond Chautauqua is attracting . a large number from this community daily, and on Sunday there will likely be a complete exodus in the direction of Richmond. The condition of Fred E. Burtch, operated upon Monday evening for appendicitis, is reported favorable to an early recovery. He will remain at the Reid hospital for two weeks. Mrs. Cora Barnes and son, Marvin, spent Wednesday with Mrs. Isaac Meier of Richmond. Mr. and Mrs. James Kuth entertained Wednesday, Mrs. Agnes Morton and daughter, Miss Mary, and Miss Jennie Kuth. Superintendent and Mrs. B. S. Pavis and two daughters will soon take a residence on N. W. Fifth street, Richmond. The Misses Davis will reenter Earlham college, and Mr. Davis will make the trips to New Paris daily while school here is in session. C. S. Keever, of Richmond, made a business trip in this vicinity Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Reid, of . New Madison, were guests of local relatives and friends Wednesday. W. P. Mills, teacher of the Excelsior class of the Christian Sunday school, assisted by Mrs. Mills, entertained the class members Tuesday evening at their home, in honor of Misses Mildred Clark and Bessie Fisher. Freed auto truck did not make its regular run Thursday to Richmond, as Mr, Freed moved the household goods of Walter Collins, New Madison, Ohio, to Springboro, where Mr. Collins will teach the coming year. Helen, of Richmond, came Thursday to spend a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Bauragardner and other local relatives. James H. Barnett suffered a stroke of paralysis on his left side Thursday. He was stricken while seated on a wagon and fed off. He is doing as well as can be expected. Mrs. Gertie Johanning and children, of Richmond, spent the latter part of the week with the former's mother, Mrs. Mary A. McGill. A pleasant social affair was that of : Wednesday evening when a joint meetin of the Gettysburg-New Paris Methodist churches was held at the New Paris church. Miss Miriam Parkins and William Hussey were married Wednesday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Parkins. The decorations were hydrangea blossoms. The guests were the immediate relatives, consistof the bridegroom's father, Lindley Hussey, and brothers and sisters. Louis, Maude, Robert and Charles Hussey, Mr. and Mrs. John DuGranrut and daughter, Irvin Harmeier; the bride's relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Parkins, Ivan Parkins, Lloyd Parkins, Mrs. Phoebe Michael of Richmond; Fred Michael, Miss Carrie Michael, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Crist, and the Rev. F. M. Westhafer, pastor of the M. E. church. The bride was attired in a dark blue traveling gown. At 2 o'clock the bridge and bridegroom advanced to the arched entrance between the dining room, where they, were married. Refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Hussey left for a bridal trip to Detroit and other northern points. The bride was the recipient of many pretty gifts. LIBERTY CHAUTAUQUA CLOSES WITH LECTURE ON "RIGHT LIVING" LIBERTY, Ind., Aug. 27. The Lin coln Chautauqua closed last evening, with a lecture, "Level Best Living," by Dr. Landrith, of Nashville, Tennesee, and "Faust," presented by the Cbfcago Opera company. The Union county teachers' insti tute is being held this week at the coliseum. It closed Friday. The Delta Thela Tan Sorority will be entertained at the country home of Miss Dessie Stevens. Misses Olive, Mildred and Char lotte Tumbeirmer. ofCincinnati, who nave been tne guests of tneir grandparents this summer, will entertain their friends at a lawn party tomor row evening. Miss Catherine Morris has returned from an extended trip through the west, having attended the Panama exposition. Miss Aselia Bates returned to Fair field. The home of Benjamin Stalker, in the southwest part of town, was entered by thieves on Wednesday Bight, and the rooms thoroughly ransacked from cellar to attic. It has. not been possible to learn what amount of property was stolen, as Mr. Stalker and family were with their show at Lafayette at the time. Officers are searching for the thieves, and it is thought that they will soon be apprehended. It is understood that threats bad been made against Mt. The 'question of paving Main street from the river bridge to the West Corporation line is being revived, and a petition to the board of town trustees is being circulated among the property holders along that thoroughfare. The movement thus far is meeting with satisfactory encouragement. George Usher, of Indianapolis, is spending the week visiting his- parents and other relatives at this place. George is in the undertaking business in the Capitol city. Howard Whitely is shipping apples to Indianapolis, preparatory to making an exhibit at the state fair.
