big nm PROMISE BOOMS
Men who have their fingers on the nation's business pulse tell farmers of America just wherein lies the reason for the assured long era of prosperity that now looms on the horizon. They say crops will be good. That Is an assured fact, despite the heavy rains In many localities, which have more or Jess seriously handicapped the otherwise tremendous yields of winter wheat and the oats crop. This Is a big country. While on; section may feel a little adversity In crop production, others will more than offset It by by producing at an enormous rate. Big men In the banking and manufacturing Industries look ahead optimistically, and their views should be shared by the people at large. To think prosperity, talk it and boost for it Is a national duty. x The fundamentals are at hand good crops, currency elasticity and a greater balance of trade with foreign nations than ever before. A tremendous export demand Is assured during the progress of Europe's war and for a long time thereafter. Business lethargy, long since having been started on the move, Is be-, Ing driven to cover. In Its place there is an improved general situation, one that gives every Indication of being here to continue Indefinitely. Chicago, the center of labor disturbances for months past, Is free from them now. Building and many other trades are at work on full time and that means increased purchasing power for the workers. Eastern conditions as well are Improving. A more favorable situation in the labor field can not but help to strengthen greatly the investment market. Whatever dullness there may be still existing in the business world is largely a state of mind.
RAIN INJURE8 WHEAT. ECONOMY. Ind., July 30 Farmers are getting much discouraged on account of the rain. Wheat and rye are sprouting in the shock, and acres of hay have been cut that can not be handled. Oats will soon be past saving unless there is a cessation of rain. But is Is an 111 wind that blows no one good. Therefore' these rains are beneficial to growing corn. ' The price of tin fluctuates Very rapIdly and widely.
