SUNDAY. 'Little Deceiver" I found the story of "The Little Deceiver," which was written by H. s. Sheldon, quite affecting as told in pictures and also possessing steady interest. The story has also the charm of being different from the ordinary run, in that a girl of seventeen poses as a boy until the close,, when the revealing of her sex brings joy to her obdurate old uncle and a swee'heart to her old pal, who had taken a liking to her at a time when she passed for only a "sissifled" boy. Edna Mayo carries the part of the "boy-girl" very happily. She makes a very nice boy indeed, with just sufficient femininity disclosed to impress us that she is a capable actress. In the scene where the "boy-girl" has discarded her boyish apparel and appears before her uncle for the first time in rightful attire. Miss Mayo makes a very attractive Igure. . It is the first time in moving pictures that I have been able to see Miss Mayo's features to advantage, and a most engaging and winsome young lady was revealed. If only Miss Mayo would continue to dress her hair so that we can see her as nature has endowed her, we shall be happier! WEDNESDAY. "Mrs. Van Alden's Jewels" Marian Ross is the social secretary of John Van Alden and his wife, a wealthy couple. Van Alden advertises for a valet, and chooses from among the applicants one Davidson, who has satisfactory references. While he is conversing with Davidson, Marian enters the room, and a glance of recognition r asses between her and the man. At the earliest opportunity Davidson waylays the secretary and demands an interview. "You!" she exclaims, white with terror. "I thought you were dead." He assures her that he is very much alive, and. as they can talk no longer without risk of discovery, prom

ises to see her again. Marian, unnerved by the meeting, goes about her duties. Mrs. Van Alden sends her to the safe deposit, company to get her jewels, which she is to wear at a reception. Securing the jewels, Marian returns to the house and enters her own room to think out a plan of dealing with this spectre of the past which las arisen so suddenly in her life.

snappy Universal fashion, with a laugh running all the way through. The general public is interested in motion pictures. It is curious to learn about the home life of the stars, to learn whether it is true that Actor So-and-So beats his wife, and whether he wears a wig off the stage.

SUNDAY. "The Broken Coin" Francis Ford md Grace Cunard are stars in the lay. At the end of the fourth episode of "The Broken Coin" it will be remembered that Kitty 3at, unconscious of her danger,' under the uplifted blade of an unknown assassin. Blake, the man who had looked into the palace window and overheard Sachio tell his man to meet him at the hunting lodge with the coin, holds the knife over Kitty's head. Roleau, looking into the room at Sachio, is afraid to move for fear it will bring harm to Kitty.. Looking out of the corner of his eye, he can just see the hand of a man holding the knife near her head. He knows that if he turns the man may drive the blade home and, thinking quickly, and acting still more quick, Roleau turns on the man, his arms raised in such a way that it strikes Blake's arm, sending the knife flying into the next room. TUESDAY. "Behind the Screen" Eddie Lyons and Victoria Forde are the stars. Here we are, the comedy educational. Instruction with a laugh in it. Teacher with a feather duster tickler in the physiology class. Prof. Bones with a squirtgun in the anatomy pit. The Universal calls it "Behind the Screen," and it tells all about the making of pictures. Not in the stereotyped, you-

ure-now-about-to-be-bored style, but ini

WEDNESDAY. "Thou Shalt Not Lie" Billy Garwood and Violet Merserean are the leaders. Mothers and fathers who teach their children to be absolutely truthful under any and all circumstances are many times embarrassed by being "given away" by their offspring, while telling little social fibs. In "Thou Shalt Not Lie," a two-reel Imp drama, this idea has been carried to its logical conclusion, and a reformed bank thief, who has taught his child to tell the truth no matter what happens, is unconsciously betrayed and delivered over into the hands of the law. Willing to abide by the results of the ironciad principle he had inculcated in his child, the reformed fugitive from justice gives himself into the hands of a detective who has been trailing him, but the latter decides to give the former bank teller a chance and frees him.

THURSDAY. "Mad Maid of hte Forest" Gene Gauntier and Jack Clark excel in virile outdoor drama. Their latest masterpiece, "The Mad Maid of the Forest," is a typical example of their convincing realism and artistry. In this two-reel Bison photoplay, as gripping a story as the , Universal ever has released, is told.

"Bound on the Wheel" Like father like son." It's an old adage, but is based on truth. The habits, the good points and the failings of the parent re-appear in the offspring almost invariably. The craving for liquor, scientists have noted, has been transmitted from father to son in numerous instances, and where the son possesses the physical and mental characteristics of his parent, the faults of the father likewise crop out at maturity.

Murray MONDAY AND TUESDAY. "Sunshine Molly" This drama of life in the oilfield is not lacking in its coemdy element. The Widow Budd, a ne warrival in town furnishes many smiles. Pat O'Brien, owner of a nonpaying oil well, exudes good fellowship in spite of his troubles. The story opens when Molly arrives at the oil town seeking work and immediately begins to radiate sunshine by her good deeds. She finds employment at the boarding house of Mrs. O'Brien, and shares the drudgery with Patsy, the daughter. "Bull" Forrest, a hard character, whose opinion of women is not high, attempts to become familiar on short acquaintance and Molly breaks a plate over his head. Bull leaves the dining room in a rage.

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. For over a year Mr. Samuel H. London, the former international investigator, has been at work preparing a motion picture which would demonstrate the inside workings of the much discussed and alarming traffic in white slaves. His idea was-primarily to show it privately and before specially selected audiences where it might do the greatest amount of good, but upon seeing the result of his work, those most interested "in the expose and final extermination of this revolting vice have urged public exhibition of this remarkable film in order to assure the greatest possible circulation and scope. It is in many ways the most astonishing picture ever taken and its truth is vouched for by authorities on the subject.
