HINDENBURG'S TRICKS DELIGHT TO GERMANS BERLIN, June 18. A favorite pastime ol patriotitc Germans at present Is to tell stories of the ruses by which Field Marshal von Hindenburg, whose popularity is undiminished, deceived the Russians during the campaign in East Prussia. One of his tricks was to change the entire topography of the districts in front of the enemy. After having transformed the old roads into fields, he laid out new roads across the former fields. This new topography was recorded on military maps which were then intentionally lost near the Russian outpo6ts and the Russian armies advanced along the roads which Hindenburg had prepared for them carefully, marking the exact range of each part of them for the benefit of the Prussian artillery.
