PENCE HOLDS MEDAL AGAINST CHALLENGER ;" NEW PARIS. O.. June 14. M. H. 1 Pence of Vfew Paris, O., holder of the King medal," was challenged by John H. Kramer of "West Alexandria, and the games were played' on' Tuesday and Wednesday evenings of last week gt the local roque courts. The result was that Pence won four straight games and( retains the medal. The score was 'as follows: First game, Pence defeated Kramer 32 to 21 in two hours and ten minutes ; second game, Pence defeated Kramer 32 to 16 in two hours and five minutes; third game. Pence defeated Kramer 32 to 19 in three hours and ten minutes; fourth game, Pe',ce defeated Kramer 32 to 16 In one iour and thirty-five minutes. The medal is valued at J50 and was donated by C. C- King of Chicago, champion roque player of the west. The holder of the medal is subject to changgenge every thirty days by a member of a club that is both a member of the Interstate and Western Roque associations, and will also be played for yearly at the tournament of the Interstate. New Paris is doing ber best to keep the medal at home, Pence having won it in 1914 from Kilmer of Chicago. Kramer is a business man of West Alexandria and Pence is cashier of the First National bank of New Paris.

COMMISSIONERS LOSE OUT ON GRAVEL ROAD WORK.

A ruling was given the county commissioners by the state board of accounts that in the future no payments will be made them for work In connection with free gravel road improvements. This will cut the commissioners out of $15 to $20 a month each during the improvement season.

Sunday school will observe Children's Day Sunday evening, June 20. 1 Paul Werking was at Richmond Saturday to visit his mother, Mrs. Sherman Werking who recently underwent a surgical operation at the Reid Memorial Hospital. She was getting along as well as couui be expected.

SOUTH SIDE BRIDGE REPORT! PRESENTED ; ' An abstract of 4 the report on the south side bridge was made Saturday afternoon by. Bridge Engineer Mueller who did -not make a recommendation because of the absence of figures on reducing the street grade on approaches td the structures. It will be three weeks before a recommendation is made. The E street bridge exclusive of approaches, will cost $141,000 or $4.70 per square foot of roadway. The G street: bridge will cost $167,475 or $4.62 per square foot. The length of the former will be 600 feet and of the latter 725 feet. .
