BOARD TO
EHERGEIICY SEWER FOR SIXTH STREET - '-. " .-.--. r "a . I, -, ,,,, . t , An emergency storm sewer will be installed In North Sixth street a black and a half north of Main street, the board of public works decided today after a complaint put on record eight years ago was Investigated. The sewer-will be installed to carry away water from Fifth and Sixth streets, which drains down North A street. - The water at present runs from Fifth to Seventh street. Joining the Eighth and A streets, storm water there and flooding cellare connected with that sewer. As a concrete paving contract has been let for Sixth street," the board will not hold a public hearing on the sewer question but will advertise immediately to receive bids Monday, June 21 The city will pay the entire cost of the sewer. This has not been estimated by the city engineer. Dr. Wsmpler Complains. t romnlaint was made by Dr. J.
M. Wampler, Seventh and North A streets, who said a fight was first waged eight years ago for relief, and has come up several times since. He said in the heat of the Seventh street paving fight, the sewer troubles were forgotten, but were remembered again in the heavy rains of the last few weeks. City Engineer Charles was ordered to prepare plans to cut down Center street. New sidewalks recently made along the street are from five to six feet lower than the crown of the street and the board expects to forestall the possibilities of a damage suit by having the work done immediately. To furnish the street department with sufficient hose to meet its needs, 250 feet of new hose will be purchased for the fire department. The fire department will turn over an equal amount of old hose in good condition, except for a few pin hole leaks, which make it unsafe for heavy water presThe board took under advisement a petition of E. C. Routh and others to reduce the width of a sidewalk on the west side of North West Second street from Richmond avenue to Lincoln street. The plan calls for a six-foot walk and the petitioners want a fivefoot walk. A petition for a Bidwalk on the west side of South Tenth street from Park place to South C street was referred to the engineer for estimates on the cost
