AUSTRIA MAKES STAND TO STOP ITALY'S DRIVE Strives Violently to Retake Positions Lost to Italians at Monte Groce and in Carnia. ROME, June 4 After retiring steadily before the Italian invasion, the Austrians have finally assumed the offensive. An official statement, based upon dispatches from Lieut. Gen. Count Luigl Cadorna, chief of the general staff, announces that the Austrians are striving violently to retake the position which they lost to the Italians at Monte Croce. All along the Carnia frontier the Austrians are delivering fierce attacks In the Alpine passes, but everywhere these have been repulsed. The official statement follows: "We deem it expedient to call attention to the slow though determined offensive of our troops in the mountains on the left bank of the Isonzo river, against the A'ustrlan works which are strongly defended with big guns. Our troops have progressed steadily through mountain gorges and over precipitous cliffs. Along the frontier of Carnia the Austrians are fiercely, but unsuccessfully attacking our positions. In Carnia the Austrians are endeavoring without success to retake the position lost to us at Monte Groce. We are now complete masters of Monte Nero."

CLEAR WILD ROVER FOR DANCING SALON

The proposition of making a dance floor on the Wild Rover on Morton Lake, was taken up with the Lake and Park company yesterday by the new lessees, Strohm Brothers. Members of the board of directors approved the idea. It has not been officially decided, however. If the action of the board is favorable, the boat will be prepared so it can be rented out to dancing parties for an an evening with music by a saxophone trio. The position of the seats will be changed and the boiler will be moved from the center to the front of the boat. Pipe lines laid along the floor by Captain Rogers have been removed, leaving this space unobstructed. The Wild Rover is again stuck on the bottom. In the flood water two or three days ago when the lake rose

two feet, the boat was carried next to

the south wing of the dam, where the water is shi.llow. The boilers will be ready for use in a few days and the boat will be pulled off by its own power.
