ABANDON PLANS FOR MEMORIAL IN PUBLIC PARK
CAMBRIDGE CITY. June 1 Owing to the inclemency of the -weather, the Memorial exercises were held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church, instead of at Riverside cemetery The
church was fittingly decorated with
flags and white peonies.
Hon. Joel E. Stafford of Indianapolis
made the address.. C. S. Kitterman,
represented the Sons of Veterans. The
pastors of the different churches a
slsted in the services, both at the
church and at the river bridge, the W. R. C. also giving their impressive ceremony at the bridge.
The music was by the boys' choir of
the Methodist church and by the Cambridge City Band. A committee from the G. A. R. Post decorated the graves of the soldiers.
CENTER TOWNSHIP WILL BOOST OLD TRAILS AT MASS MEETING
FEW BOYS SIGN UP FOR SUMMER GAMP
Financial loss will be suffered by the Y. M. C. A. in the boys' camp which will be held from June 15-25, nine miles south of Rushville on the Flat Rock river unless more boys signify their intentions of joining the expedition. So far only sixteen have Figned and thirty boys were expected to become campers. Somerville who has charge of the camp believes that the majority of the boys will wait until a few days before June 15, and then sign up for the trip. He is discouraging this habit among the boys as much as possible. The work of preparing for the camp is steadily going on and the camp will be held regardless of the number of boys who poin it.
The Center township Commercial Club has sent out a circular letter boosting the Old Trails' Road movement. Its text follows: "You are hereby extended an Invitation to be among those present at a Mass Meeting of all the Citizens of Center Township, the meeting to be held at the Town Hall at CenteWille, Ind., on Friday, June 4, 1915 at 8:00 o'clock p. m. "The purpose of the meeting is the planning of Center Township's part of a Grand Parade and County Celebration for July Fourth, to be held in Wayne County somewhere along the National Road, probably at Jackson's Park. "This Celebration Is for the purpose of creating more interest in the Good Roads Movement and especially in furthering the movement now on foot to have the Government build
what will be known as the NationalJ
Old Trails Road, using what is now the National Road as a part of this
route, this to be a brick or cement road built and maintained by the Government and to extend from Coast to Coast, covering a great many of the Old Trails used in early days as a
passage from East to West. The en
tire length of the road will be 3,600 miles and will serve 11,000,000 people. "This highway improvement will be of great benefit to Center Township and we should all take an active interest in this Grand Fourth of July Celebration, so let us join hands and try to have every man, woman and child in Center Township at this Mass Meeting, June 4th, and boost for the National Old Trails Road. "FRED TEAS, "Chairman Special Committee" The directors of the club are: H. H. Peelle, W. A. Bertsch, 'C. J. Harvey, Thos. G. Dunbar, Frank Ryan, Fred A. Harris, Clyde Driffil. The officers are: President, J. H. Blose; vice president, J. F. Dynes; secretary, W. T. Mathews; treasurer, T. I. Ahl.
DRAMA LEAGUES READ GREGORY PLAY
An interesting program was delivered before the members of the Drama League who held a meeting last night in the Morrisson-Reeves library when six of the members read Lady Gregory's play, entitled "Hyacinth Halvey" and Mrs. H. R. Robinson read a paper on "The Modern Drama." Mrs. Robinson classified and commented among various dramas now in the public eye and gave illustrations of those which have gained most prominent place. She also remarked
upon the Little Theatre of New York. Her paper was unusually interesting! and was accorded attention and appre- i iation. ! The reading of Lady Gregory's play , by six members of the league was also , entertaining and was heard with deep-: est attention.
CONVERT MANSIONS INTO SANITARIUMS FOR SOLDIER BOYS
FOLKSTONE, Eng., June 1. Fiftyfive Canadians wounded in France, are now being nursed back to health within two miles of Folkestone. Their nursing home is officially called the Canadian Military Hospital. In non-
war days it is Beachborough Park, Shorncliffe, the home of Lady Malcolm a typical, solid-faced, white-tur-reted, English mansion, tucked cosily under the lea side of the cliffs that fringe the English Channel. Every available room in the house has been converted into a 'ward." Old masterpieces of Dutch and British painters hang on the walls and broad staircases; the luxurious hall with its old-fashioned fireplace, has become a sort of rest room for nurses who snatch a few minutes off duty; a tennis court is being laid out in front of the house for the use of patients in the coming months; on the huge lawn to the left is to be erected an extension of the hospital. And on the first floor an apartment has been turned into an operating room. Under the glare of the X-rays prac
tically every man has been probed forj German bullets and shrapnel which j had not been removed at the bast hos- j pitals in France. Major Jackson died' here though his name has not yet fig-1
ured in the casualty list, Jackson died not from wounds, but from appendici tis, which he contracted in the trench es.
BELLES OF LONDON STUDY FOR SERVICE
LONDON, June 1. The serious responsibilities of war have been accepted by no class in England more readily that by the young matrons and girls of the aristocracy, who, a year ago were belles of the ballrooms and debutantes at court. Many of them are training at the big London hospitals, entering as students for regular work, doing the menial work that goes with every nurse's training, and fitting themselves to go back to their homes and transform them into hospitals for wounded soldiers. Princess Mary had quite a tiff with her mother on her eighteenth birthday anniversary a few weeks ago when she expressed the wish to become a nurse like the daughters of the Czar. Queen Mary, however, stood firm, and the young princess most reluctantly had to give in, although she asked Dowager Queen Alexandra, as head of the British Red Cross society, to plead her cause. People at court say that she is now more disgusted than ever with being a royal princess.
TO REPEAT PLAY
The First English Lutheran league, which scored such success in the staging of the play, The Day After the Wedding," several days ago at the First English Lutheran church, will repeat the play on Friday night. Another large audience is expected to attend the play.
CONFEDERATES MEET
RICHMOND, Va., June 1. The T'nited Confederate Veterans here for their aimual reunion, will hold memorial services of one hour tomorrow. Exactly at noon the convention will suspend its business for this purpose, and the flags will be draped in mourning as a mark of respect to the comrades who died.
HONOR FOR KITCNENER
LONDON, June 1. If everything goes well Lord Kitchener is shortly to be made a Knight of the Garter. He would have been made one already if the king was not afraid of annoying certain other peers by giving everything at once to the dictator in the war ffice, who is anything but popular with his fellow members of the upper house. They dislike his rather abrupt manners and his invariable habit of calling a spade a spade.

NEW PARIS PASTOR DELIVERS MEMORIAL
NEW PARIS. O.. June 1 Memorial Day was fitting observed in spite of the inclement weather on Sunday at New Paris. The K. of P. lodge held services in the forenoon. A number of the Knights quietly assembled at Castle Hall and marched to Springlawn cemetery where short ritualistic services were held. The G. A. It. services were held in the afternoon at the Methodist church, the comrades, preceded by the New Paris band leaving the post room at 1:30 o'clock. Lincoln's Gettysburg address was read by Comrade C. W. Bloom. Martial music was sung by the Christian church quartet consisting of Mrs. L. C. Ashman. Miss Nelle McNeill, E. L. Reinheimer and R. E. Killbourne, with Mrs. W. L. Hahn presiding at the organ. Rev. C. W. Hoeffer of Richmond, who was to have delivered the address of the day was unable to be present and Rev. E. Kneisley of the Methodist church gave a splendid talk on "Liberty." The line to the cemetery was formed, the band first, the veterans next followed by the children and citizens and visitors. Short ritualistic services were held before the G. A. R. monument completed recently.
OPEN SPECIAL SCHOOL
Summer school is being held at Garfield school under the direction of Principal Heironimus assisted by three teachers. The school opened yesterday and classes of boys with several girls are receiving instruction in manual training and arithmetic. The boys in classes are permitted to make anything in woodwork which they made during last year's course. The speed and accuracy while following the fundamental rules of the work, will develop to greater extent and enable the boys to do their work better next year.
FRENCH TABOO STYLE
VERSAILLES, June 1. No Frenchwoman adorns herself these days, and all ornaments are tabooed. With the exception of rings, no jewelry has been worn since the war broke out. A well-knnwn American hostess has been "sent to Coventry" by several of her intimate friends because she permits dancing on one or two evenings a week at her home. The guests are, for the most part, English speaking people. She has an admirable floor in one, of her rooms, not encumbered by furniture; she likes young people in her house, and they take advantage of the polished boards. Nevertheless, it is a heinous offense against French taste at the moment.
USE COCOANUTOIL FOR WASHING HAIR
If you want to keep your hair in good condition, the less soap you use the better. Most soaps and prepared champoos contain too much alkali. This dries the scalp, 'makes the hair brittle, and is very harmful. Just mulsified cocoanut oil (which is pure and entirely greaseless), is much better than soap or anything else you can use for shampooing, as this can't possibly injure the hair. Simply moisten your hair with water and rub it in. One or two teaspoonfuls will make an abundance of rich, creamy lather, and cleanses the hair and scalp thoroughly. The lather rinses out easily, and removes every particle of dust, dirt, dandruff and excessive oil. The hair dries quickly and evenly, and it leaves it fine and silky, fluffy and easy to manage. You can get mulsified cocoanut oil at most any drug store. It is very cheap, and a few ounces is enough to last every one in the family for months.
