STUTZ TRIO PROVES AMERICAN FAVORITE

INDIANAPOLIS. May 25. Through its great work in the elimination trials for the Indianapolis 500-mile race Sat-, the Stutz team ranks as American favorites for that contest, with De Palma and porporato as its opponents at the wheel of foreign cars. Wilcox, Cooper and Anderson the Stutz drivers, "lapped the course with averages of 98.9, 96.8 and 96.4 miles an hour, respectively. Wilcox's mark was the best of the present season, 1:31 flat, but slightly behind Boillofs sensational time of 1:30.13 last last yf ar. ' What makes the Stutz outfit look all the better is that it is a. three-car team. Precedent shows that an individual car entry is at a great disadvantage against numerically stronger competition. The individual entranttrant can take no chances, while the other crowd can. Following the elimination trials, the remainder of the week will be devoted to practice, with a final meeting of contestant Thursday night. On Friday the track will be closed for its annual scrubbing. The race will start Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.

Caught Off Bases of State League

Rushville is all set for the New Castle game next Sunday. Tommy Twitter believes about the biggest obstacle in the way of Rushville next Sunday will be New Castle. If Hewitt continues to pitch the game he shows himself capable of Sunday, he has won a permanent berth at Rushville. New Castle will run a special to Rushville.

When Charles Keene and Neil Whalen roll to the tape in this year'u Indianapolis 500-mile race they will be at the wheel of cars different from any other on the track. Mounting Knipht motors, these machines, called F. R. P., are the dark horses of the contest, with no one able to figure exactly what they will do. In any event, with Keene and Whalen at the wheel, it is certain they will be forced to the limit, as both these drivers have their reputations yet to make, and, accordingly will drive their hardest.

Hasselbaek will hold down a bench job at Rushville until his arm improves. Lenniger, former Richmond player, will be seen at shortstop against New Castle.

Rev. Mr. Roy Wollen delivered the baccalaureate sermon for a class of

nine of the Spiceland high school in Spiceland Sunday evening. Rev. Mr. Wollen was the former pastor of the local Friends church and spent a few hours calling on his many friends in Centerville. He has spent

the past year in the McCormick university in Chicago and as pastor of the First Friends church in Georgetown, III.

W. R. G. DELEGATION BACKS MRS. WILSON

Unanimous endorsement was given the candidacy of Mrs. Nettie Wilson for junior vice president of the Indiana W. R. C. by members of the local chapter. Delegates to the state convention at Marion this week will be active in their support of Mrs. Wilson. This statement of the society's action was made today by Mrs. Mary Christopher. chaplain. Mrs. Christopher said support of Mrs. Kate Scott's candidacy for department president would not be unanimous, that only ten members of the corps supported her race. The following statement and endorsement of Mrs. Wilson's candidacy was made today by Mrs. Minnie Hall, president, and Mrs. Lissie M. Arnold, secretary: "Mrs. Nettie Wilson, the only fully endorsed candidate for office from the W. R. C. of Richmond, will leave for Marion, Ind., Wednesday morning to attend the annual convention held in that city. m She will be accompanied by fifteen to twenty representative women of the corps who will loyally support Mrs. Edna Pauley of Indianapolis for department president, and Mrs. Nettie Wilson for junior vice president of the department."
