GOOD CROP REPORT BOOMS WHEAT PRICE

CHICAGO, May 21. Unfavorable crop news was pouring into the board today from many sections of the winter wheat belt from private sources, but the outlook compiled by the Modern Miller was given most attention and was the prime cause of advances of 1 to 3 in wheat, the appearance of the later document resulted in heavy buying by shorts. Cash trade was dull with sales of only 5,000 bushels. Corn closed at advances of to lc and oats were up to c. Sales of corn today were 75,000 and oats 175,000 bushels. Hog products were higher all around

AMERICAN FRIEND URGES DIPLOMACY INSTEAD OF FIGHT "Settle the issues of the Lusitanla

sinking by diplomatic methods, not war," said S. E. Nicholson, editor of the American Friend. "The American people are not greatly divided in their condemnation of the attack which sent the Laisitania to the bottom of the sea, with its consequent destruction of more than a regiment of human lives. It is no justification that warning had been previously given. Murder is no less murder because information of the intended deed has reached the victim beforehand. Nor is it sufficient excuse that the calamity occurred within the zone of war fixed arbitrarily by Germany. "The solution of the problem is not easy but there is no reason to believe that the issues Involved cannot be settled by diplomatic methods. There is no occasion for the inflammatory talk of war. That would only destroy more lives without settling any issues. If America can succeed in putting to an end such piracy on the high seas, she will have accomplished much. The whole nation should pray that our chief magistrate may be led aright as he tries to solve this perplexing problem."
