LOCALS PROVE FAR INFERIOR TO CAMBRIDGE Clarence Hampton Pleases Kenney With Fielding Behind Bat and Will Get Another Chance. Cambridge City, 6; Richmond, 1. Cambridge City had no trouble in defeating the Richmond aggregation at the Athletic Park Sunday hanging on to the long end of a 6 to 1 score which about shows the relative playing strength of the two teams in this

game. The visitors more than lived up to their reputation by banging the horsehide for 12 safeties, which is more than any other team has been able to do to the local heaver. Lou Thomas simply had a bad day. He had injured his elbow previous to the game. Most o the hits which were garnered off him were infield taps which ordinarily would make easy outs but the local boys had things breaking away from them. Hampton Goes Well. Clarence Hampton who was given a chance at the biggest weak spot in the Richmond lineup got away well as far as the fielding end was concerned, putting up a far better game than Knlsely has shown. Hamp let but one man steal on him. Kenney was much pleased with the showing of the local lad and will give him a thorough workout. McCann was the heavy man with th$ stick for the local getting to the delivery of Lefty Nunn for three clean blows out of four times up, one of which was good for two sacks. Hennlnger, backstop for the visitors was the chief hitter for them slapping out three safe blows in four times up and scoring two of their runs. Richmond started out as if they meant business in the first inning after holding Doc's men runless. McCann doubled and advanced to third on Applegate's sacrifice. McBrair brought him in with a nice single, but Popkins could not locate and retired the side when he swung at the ozone

three times. Cambridge evened it up in the second on a double by Winger and a sacrifice. Kenney's men got nothing in their time up. Visitors Add More. The visitors added two more in the third when they got on to Lou's cross deli-ery for five solid swats. Their next two innings. were not productive but they started in again in the sixth when AVinger again scored after being handed free transportation to first stealing second and coming in under full head of steam on Mollencamps safe one. Ilenninger crossed the pan in the seventh. They added their last one in the ninth Lefty Nunn tallying on a hit and a couple of fielders choices. And all this time Richmond was getting nothing. And unless improvement is shown within the next couple of weeks there will probably be a few players who will be out in the cold.

By consistent winning of seconds

and thirds with enough first to swell

to total, Earlham defeated Wabash in

the track and field meet held on Reid field Saturday afternoon by the score of 60 to 56. The Earlham victory

would have been much larger had Taylor, who showed up exceptionally well in the meet with Indiana, been able to run. He was injured in practices last week and was unable to do anything in the meet. He started in the quarter mile run and was leading the field by several yards when he was forced to retire. Mills Springs Surprise. Edgar Mills, a Freshman, was the surprise of the Earlham team. He won 11 points, capturing first in the high jump, second in the quarter mile run and second in the half mile. Carl Neal also surprised everyone by finishing first in the two mile. Gavit was the star of the Little Giants making two firsts, one in the mile and the other in a half mile. Walton, the much touted track man, failed to make the showing that was expected of him. He captured first in the broad jump with 19 feet, il inches; second in the discus throw but he failed to qualify in the shot put. Because of the poor condition of the

track, slow time was made in all of the races. No records were broken. Competition in every event was keen and every race was spectacular in spite of the fact that fast time was not made. Earlham won but two first out of eight track events and three firsts out of five field events. The Quakers won nine seconds and four thirds. iast year the Quakers were defeated by the Little Giants at Crawfordsville by one half point. Results of Events. The following is result by events: One Mile Run B. Gavit (W) first, Loree (E) second, McKnight (W) third. Time, 4:59.2. 440-Yard Dash Nicholson (W) first.

In a six inning game between the Sharkitts and Brennens Sunday morning at Athletic Park, Sharkitt's team was let down with one run and not a hit by the good twirling of "Spike" Lawrence who was going great striking out 7 of his opponents and giving but one base on balls. The Brennens

won out by an 8 to 1 count and got into the lead in the K. of C. circuit with a perfect percentage. Outside the work of Lawrence, Arntz was the star of the game with three safe bingles out of four times up. Anthony Hafner was touched up at a pretty fast clip by the winners who bear promise of winning the championship of the circuit by their hitting alone. Sharkitts.

I last reports of the Rame with East-

Lon Slack wants several good ball players and is especially on the lookout for another good twirler to afford protection to his fielders at least. The "Ads" are known for their hitting powers, but would expect them to dish out to Easthaven such a dose as in Saturday's game? Twenty-one hits. 20 runs and 6 errors is the way the score reads. The feature of the game was the all around playing of Brady, the Ad-Hill twirler. The Schweitzer's played best for the losers, with three hits apiece out of five times up.
