W. S. Chambers, Democratic chairman of the Sixth district and editor of the New Castle Times, is causing the small army of Republican rural route carriers in this district to quake in their shoes Tight now. Until recently they believed that because they had, been performing their duties in an efficient manner and because they had been appointed under the civil servioe they were in no danger of losing thir jobs. About a monrth ago Congressman Gray made a trip through the district and when it became known that the purpose of this pilgrimage was to ascertain ways and means of getting rid of Republican rural carriers so that their jobs could be turned over to faithful Democrats the anguish and apprehension of the G. O. P. carriers was heart rending. Wants wick Change. Yesterday Chairman Chambers, who is Mr. Gray's right hand bower, declared editorially in the New Castle Times, that it was high time for the Republican rural carriers to be looking out for other jobs. The editorial, which is regarded as the official notice of an impending massacre of G. O. P. postal employes, reads: "There are 2,200 rural mail carriers In the state of Indiana. After two years of an administration dominated by a

Democratic president and a Democratic congress it is interesting to note that 95 per cent of these carriers are Republicans and only five per cent. Democrats. At this rate of change it will take something lfke forty years to get a square deal, that is 95 per cent. Democrats and 5 per cent. Republicans. Up To Congress. "This matter is entirely in the hands of the Democratic congress, and it can make or unmake any law, civil service included. When the members of congress take a notion they want a change it will come. At the present rate the end of Wilson's term would find 90 per cent, of these rural carriers Republicans and only ten pep cent. Democrats. "The Democratic party has stood for this humbug about as long as is

necessary and we miss our guess n 'the next six months does not see a I change of front. Every man, be he I Democrat or Republican, knows that j the civil service which covers politii cal appointees, is a sham and was a ! trick to perpetuate political workers in office and not to better the service. I Humbugs never last long and this one ' will go the way of all others. After I them should come the multitude of j other post office employes who get j their jobs without examinations."

MIFJORIE MORGAN WRITES ON OVERTURE HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA WILL RENDER

Marjorie Morgan, of the high school has written the following on the overture which the high school orchestra will play at the Mjay Festival: "To arms! To arms! T'is the bugle's loud call. To horse! To horne! Oh! hurry all. Up and off across the plain, Ah, its a sight grand to see. When the war god-calls out the Light Cavalry." When the High School orchestra appears in the May Festival this year it will play the Liglut Cavalry overture. This overture is one of Franz Von Suppe's most pleading works, and as Von Suppe was ocne of the greatest composers of opereittas, vaudeville and concert overtures ihis overture is indeed very entertaining. Von Suppe did no roal heavy work such as great oratorios, symphonies or operas. He delighted in comic operas and concert overtures. The concert overture is a piece to which the name amd form of overture is applied but is intended for concert use only and with no special purpose, in other instances bearing a specific, title indicating the composer's intention to illustrate some poetical or legendary subject. The concert overture differs from the operatic overture in that the latter is played before the

opera and deals with the themes which are elaborated in the scenes of the play afterwards.
