THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM AND SUN-TELEGRAM. THURSDAY, MAY 13, 1915 CITY JAIL UNSANITARY, SAYS CHARITIES BOARD ERECT MOTORDOME. CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind., May 13. After practicing in the motordome which they are building near the casket factory, Thomas and Floyd Lamberson will tour carnivals and fairs, giving exhibitions. The arena, which is being constructed is 14 feet high, 31 feet in diameter and 100 feet in circumference. The Board of Charities wish to make known to the public from time to time the conditions of the different institutions -which are supported by the county and which come under their supervision. The board in its round of visits the past quarter found the county infirmary in better condition than it has been since the organization of the board, and they are pleased to commend the work of the superintendent and his wife. At the time of visiting the county Jail, thirty-two men were detained. The jail was in good condition and the bunks reasonably clean and free from vermin. The ventilating facilities are very poor. The city jail was found in a very unsanitary condition. The ventilation, lighting and heating of this building seem very unsatisfactory. The board was surprised to find that female and juvenile offenders continue to be taken to the city jail, although there are jail facilities at the Home for Friendless Women built especially to accommodate such persons. As offenders are received any hour of day or night the board can see no reason why they are not taken there instead of to the city jail where there are no suitable accommodations for THIS GOOD NEWS WILL INTEREST THE SICK IN RICHMOND vel of Toledo and Fort Wayne, Now Being Sold Here. iLEAPS INTO THE AIR TO GRAB HIGH ONES

The folloving article appeared In a late issue of The New York Times: "Owing to personal affairs, I have ; to remain in Paris, and am hard at . work for the war sufferers in a wider ! way than was possible at Dinard. , Here I am in touch with the small I and miserable hospitals all over France, Poland and Serbia, and I am ; begging again of your splendid generous readers for help. "This time I plead for spools of cotton thread and coarse ticking for mattresses for Serbia, where, near Nish, 1,400 men are lying wounds untended, raging with typhus fever, on plank floorc, because there isn't a sin- ' Rle mattress in the building. Miss Arthur, head of the medk-al department of the Young Women's Christian Association here, has gotten together by subscription money enough to pay 100 women 20 cents a day each to make up mattress covers, but there isn't enough ticking to be had, and it is the law that no shop now may sell more than one spool of white cotton to an individual, as the Etock has almost run out in France. "Therefore I beg that compassionate souls will send pieces of bed ticking and spools of cotton between 30 and 60. If every one could just donate a quarter of a dollar each, those thousands of agonized heroes would at least die more comfortable or be enabled to fight their second battle against death under more favorable conditions. A wooden floor is not a happy place when bodies are in torture. "So please help them. Direct boxes thus and they will come quickly and free of cost: Duryea, American Relief Clearing House, Pier 57, North River, New York. "Write outside what box contains, to avoid opening them, as men are scarce. "NINA 1u. DURYEA. Hotel Roosevelt, Paris, April 21, 1915." Can not the people of Richmond do something for these unfortunate victims?

MRS. TAYLOR WIGGINS. There has been an outburst of enthusiasm regarding the new Herbal tonic, Lax-a-Tone. The reason why is simply that it has produced results in Nature's way with Nature's herbs. We are publishing the testimonial of Mrs. Taylor Wiggins, 2710 Monroe street, Toledo, because she is well known in Richmond, having visited here for several years in succession. Mrs. Wiggins suffered dizzy spells from stomach and liver trouble as her friends well know. Mrs. Wiggins says, for a long time I was afflicted with liver trouble, I would bloat up with gas, belch and had a terrible pain right over my liver, but the worst of all was blind headaches and dizzy spells. I had a bad fall on Summit street about two months ago, from one of those dizzy

spells. I have taken Herbal Lax-a-

Tone, strictly followed directions and

can honestly and truthfully say I am

a well woman.
