CORPORATIONS FEEL HIGH ASSESSMENTS MADE BY ASSESSORS

In a conference with County Assessor Mathews today, John Deetz, corporation assessor for fifteen townships in Wayne county said the corporations are being assessed at a higher figure this year. He said he had completed all big corporations except the Richmond City Water Works company and the National Automatic Tool Works. A few small corporations have not been assessed. The water works company will file an inventory with the public utilities commission of Indiana from which the assessment will be made. Mr. Mathews said the real estate assessments in the country are causing trouble. Higher assessments have been conscientiously made by the assessors and as a result the farmers are objecting strenuously, declaring the farms have not increased in value in proportion to the assessments. Center Increases. In Center township, some of the farm land has been assessed fifteen per cent higher than last year. In all townships where increases were made over the heads of assessors last year on personal property, care is being taken by the assessors to see that such action is not taken on farm land this year, showing the value of such action on the part of the board of review as an example to assessors, Mr. Mathews said. Personal property ia not showing an increase this year, Mr. Mathews said. "If this is the case, I do not believe It is fair to Richmond," Mr. Deetz said. "The assessments are being increased this year, in this city."

FRIENDS TO MEET HERE IN OCTOBER

Richmond Is to have the men's conference of the Five Years Meeting, October 20, 21 and 22, according to arrangements finally completed yesterday. S. Edgar Nicholson, chairman of the committee, announced today that the conference ' of boards of the Five Years Meeting of Friends has been done away with this year so the general conference of men of the church could be held immediately after the meetings of boards.
