OF CflfT
roe oars
Under the provisions of an ordinance passed by council last night no motor car, motorcycle or any other kind of motor propelled vehicles can be operated within the city limits without: First Muffiers being closed to stifle unnecessary noises. Second Dimmers being provided for headlight. Third Tires unencumbered with sVid chains when rcadways in the city parks are being used. Fourth Reed iicrns, hand operated; bells less than five inches in diameter and whistle or horns emitting notes Of low tones. Siren horns absolutely prohibited. This ordinance, which has been pending before council for several weeks, and once returned to committee because it provided thnt Glen park could not be used by motorists Sunday afternoons, was passed by a vote of 11 to 1. The section .limed against the use of the park by motorists Sunday afternoons was not Included. Councilman Waidcle voted against the bill because It provided against the operation of autos nd motorcycles with mufflers open. Mr. Waidele eaid there are several hills in the city which could not he negotiated with closed mufflers, unless the cars were sent up them on high speed, at a rate of thirty or forty miles an hour. This provoked a long discussion, the majority of the councilmen not sharins? Waidele's opinion on the muffler question. City Attorney Bond stated that in drafting the ordinance he had Consulted an automobile manufacturer, who had informed him that an open muffler did little or nothing toward generating additional power. At this point the sarcastic .Mr. White urged council to "Go on and pass the ordinance. It will be forgotten in thirty days."

To Thrifty Housewives Everywhere . The Company Whose Factory-Shipment Plan Brought Down j High Prices of Vacuum Sweepers and Placed the "Sweet Home,' H the Monarch of Them All. Within the Reach of EVERY- HOUSEWIFE IN AMERICA, Now Makes Another Remarkable Offer. jj
A Quaker Stand-Up Scrubber goes without extra charge with every Sweet Home Sweeper, and both go without n the payment cf a cent in advance.
You will remember, Madam, that prior to our first newspaper announcement that we would ship the Sweet Home Ball-Bearing Vacuum Sweeper for $6.10 the same price a merchant would have to pay if he bought a carload of them no Vacuum Sweeper worthy of the name had ever been offered you, either by a dealer or canvassing agent, for less than ten dollars, and that the prices ranged from that upward to twenty dollars. We knew we were offering you a better Vacuum Sweeper at a lower price and we didn't have to guess at the result. The stream of orders which began to pour in upon us was the natural and logical result of our factory-shipment plan whereby we save about forty per' cent in expenses and give our customers the benefit. Another gratifying result has been achieved. The large increase in the factory output has brought about a corresponding
decrease in the cost of production. In accordance with a time-honored ; Quaker Valley principle, tested during eighteen years of direct dealings ggj with homemakers, we shall turn his saving due to increased production gp; over to the public; therefore, With every Sweet Home Bali-Bearing Vacuum g Sweeper, which we are still shipping direct from Eg the factory to the home for $6. 1 0, we will here- j after include a Quaker Stand-Up Scrubber. j Thus you will have the Quaker Twin Cleaners the Scrubber for the porches, the kitchen floor and all other bare or Hp linoleum covered floors, and the Sweet Home Sweeper for the rest of the house. Don't yon see what this will mean to you in keeping your house sweet and clean 3GT) days a year, instead of having a general cleanup twice a year? Don't you see what a relief it will be from the scrubbing and the 3 broom and dustpan? Try it for a month and then ask yourself if you want js to go back to the old way. The trial won't cost you a cent. 5
