Baseball Standings

In the best game in the High School .circuit the leading Porters bested the .tailenders last night on the Play 'grounds by the score of 5 to 2. This 'gives the Porters a substantial lead in the race for the championship, making their third straight win without a lose. The Grimes have not won a game, so far. Both Webb and Pettibone were in good form with Webb having a little advantage. The winners got off to a 2 to 1 lead right at the go as a result of four healthy swats which fell safe, mixed in with three stolen bases. They made their other three scores in the third inning. C. Porter again started off with a hit to right field. Webb was given free transportation to first base. He and Porter then pulled off a double steal, Kennedy's single brought Porter in. Webb was out E. Porter to Grimes. Hawkins walked as did McCray and Beach was hit by a pitched ball. When Watt mussed up Brumley's easy roller to first, Kennedy and Hawkins scored. The next two innings they went out in order. The Grimes could not score until :the third inning and then they did 'so without the semblance of a hit. Howard stole home. Foster batting for Wynn in the last inning doubled to right and scored on Pettibone's hit to right. Score and summary: PORTERS. A.B. R. H. P.O. A. E.

Richmond's first dual track meet with Liberty yesterday the first dual meet in which the school has participated since 1905 resulted in an overwhelming defeat, the Liberty athletes running up sixty-four points while Nohr's men were amassing twenty-six. The locals hardly expected to lose by such a score, and gloom is working overtime among the students today. Morey Tomlinson was the star for the Richmondites with two firsts, in the running broad jump and the shot put. Dollins and Davis took first for the local school when they captured the high jump without being pushed, making a leap of 5 feet inch. Dollins also took third in the discus hurl. Richmond showed weak in the dashes, the Liberty -men winning in slow time. The best performance of the meet was the 440-yard dash, which Creek of Liberty ran in the fast time of53 seconds flat. The surprise of the whole meet came in the half-mile run, which every one expected Leiter to capture. He, however, ran himself out in the 440 and could not place better than third, although making a good race of it. Summary: 100-yard dash Kitchell, Liberty, first; Shook, Liberty, second; Jenkins, Richmond, third. Time 11 2-5. Discus McMahan, Liberty, first; Pauder, Liberty, second; Dollins, Richmond, third. I. U. MAN DOES DASH IN 10 SECONDS FLAT

Reports from the training camp of Coach Childs' Indiana university track team indicate that the men are expecting to give the Quakers the trouncing of their lives in the meet on Reid field Saturday afternoon. Reports irom the Earlham camp are that the Quakers have a few surprises for the state school athletes. The Indiana men are strong in the dashes and short runs, good marks being set in a meet which was held last Saturday on Jordan field. One of the best marks was set by Erehart, whodashed into the tape from the 100yard line in ten seconds flat, equalling the university record. The coach believes Erehart could do better if pushed real hard.

One of the pleasant results of the war is the market decrease of crime in London.
