RICHMOND WOMEN WHO DRIVE AUTOS GRAVE FOR SPEEO
A local automobile dealer estimated that 80 per cent of the automobiles owned in Richmond are driven more than half their mileage by women. A much larger per cent are driven at some time by the wives, daughters and sweethearts of the owners. Not only do the women drive skillfully and with no danger of becoming confused, but they have to some extent learned the parts of cars which ordinarily cause trouble. "The women are as good drivers as men if they are given equal opportunity to learn," said the dealer. "They are just as reckless as some men, too. The women want more speed and more power, and often are not content to drive a small car that a man would be satisfied with. "I know of one or two women who can make adjustments of intricate parts, and many women can. locate ordinary troubles. Somt of the women have changed tires, when it was necessary, but such work is too heavy for women drivers. "Many fair daughters of purchasers from this place are now driving their father's cars, and many damsels take their beaux out riding in the afternoon and evening. This is not a thing out of the ordinary any longer. "On the whole, the women seem to be the big factor in the auto business. Men will buy a car for their personal use when they have to have it for business purposes, but most of them will buy when the call of a woman is heard." r
BETTER BABIES The crusade for better babies has spread from coast to coast, and taken firm hold of American Mothers. Few women realize how much the ill health of the mother influences the unborn child, both physically and mentally. Women who suffer from mysterious pains, backache, nervousness, mental depression, headaches, etc., should rely on Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, made from roots and herbs which, for nearly forty years has been the standard remedy for these ailments. Adv.

STUDENTS PASS
Continued From Page One.
the students were becoming too familiar with the dining room girls. Finally the authorities laid in wait for the suspected students on the night of March It. Previous suspicions were fully confirmed by what they witnessed. How many times or for how long the men had been entering the basement of the girls' dormitory, Earlham hall, at forbidden hours immediately became the subject of an investigation. It is not known whether the tunnel was used in this -instance or not. The conduit which carries water and heat pipes and electric wires from Bundy hall, the boys' dormitory, to Earlham hall is sufficiently large to admit a good-sized man, allowing him to walk through the passage. At Bundy ball it
enters a part of the basement which is unoccupied. 4 The entrance tor the tunnel is close to a basement door opening onto the campus at the rear of the building. At Earlham hall the passage has Its opening near the kitchen. Students and friends of the young men implicated say they had keys to the tunnel which permitted them to pass from the boys dormitory to the girls' building at will, either at night or in the daytime. It is also said that women students have recently passed through this tunnel, through the basement of Bundy ball and onto the campus at forbidden times. ' Information obtained at the college indicates that persons who have charge of the girls' - dormitory often were puzzled by the disappearance of co-eds from their rooms and by subsequent, inability to locate them in the building. ' As a result of these Incidents members of the student council, the self-, governing body which acts on matters
of discipline and reports its recommendations to the faculty, called the probe. The verdict was that each of the prominent athletes should be deprived of five hours of credit. Hazing Party Suspended. Not long since a party of young men were involved in a hazing episode and suspended, some of them for the remainder of the scool year. Nose of them happened to be. men upon whom Quaker athletic teams depend for their, strength. These developments are believed by many to explain charges made by Prof. Elbert . Russell following his resigna tion from the faculty last month. Prof. Russell said athletics at Earlham were being encouraged and placed . on a higher standard at the expense of morality and discipline. That Prof. Russell had in mind the incidents in
which these athletes figured and the
leniency shown them, is the assertion of many perons who were aroused by his statement.
