K. OF C. ENDS BOWLING YEAR

WITH

BANQUET

Father Duffy Acts as Toastmaster Father Cronin Praises Sport and Spirit Shown by Order. The K. of C. Bowling league banquet last night at the Arlington was certainly a fitting cIobo for the season. Forty-one eat down to the spread and all of them thoroughly enjoyed . the dinner. After the banquet came Bpeeches by the officers and team captains. One large Joke, which provided much mirth at the exense of Father Duffy was engineered by Father Cronin. Father Duffy's first course consisted of drum-sticks minus the meat. Father Duffy acted as toastmaster and encouraged some of the backward talk artists in their attempts to get away with some long-winded efforts. Jack O'Brien, captain of the champion Vets was the first called on. "Our team." said Jack, "was In a class by itself. At the state of the race we donated the first three games to the Braves to encourage them. From that time on you began to hear from our

team. I let the rest of the team cap

tains take their choice, and then I

picked the promising ones. I'm telling you this because I have the opportunity of getting in first, and am at least ahead of the knockers who will

follow me."

"Handsome" Phil Mercurio of the Rosebuds, was the next speaker. He was satisfied with the result of the race and voted a large hurrah for the

league. He wants it again next year. Will Broderick, Greenhorns, is quot

ed as saying that the K. of C. league was a success, and that it should be

even better next year.

James Sharkitt. speaking for the

Naps, said, "We enjoyed the sport of

bowling to the utmost, and will be on hand bright and early next year for

another one."

The "King" bowler of the league

was next Eiven a hearing. The toast

master hinted that Ray Lichtenfels

hart been asklnz for a chance to show

his wares. Ray modestly replied, "I can get them down the center of the

alley once in a while, out tonigni am getting splits. Thank you." Crump Wins Hat.

' Harrv Trunin was awarded a hat

for rolling the score of 225.

: .Tim fJoldrick said his team would

have won but for the fear that it would have broken Jack O'Brien's heart.

The oldest member of the order,

John Zwissler. came next. Although

he had not been asked to bowl, Mr, Zwissler bravely volunteered his serv

iced as umDire in the baseball league.

providing no captain saw fit to enlist

him as a backstop. Philip Mercurio, the great left-hand-eH howler had nothing to say.

Otto Pfeiffer made a hurried trip to Indianapolis and back so as to be on hand for the banquet. Otto stated that the league had turned out to be better than his fondest expectations.

Judge Head of Brookvllle, who orfered a ball for the highest average

has not been heard from, but the man

entitled to it will receive the ball with

in a short time. Rev. Cronin Praises Work.

Grand Knight Luke McTigue, was

much elated over being able to attend the function. "I came to eat and enjoyed it," he said. Father Cronin said: "I was not asked to Join the bowling league until late, and after using the tape line found that too much girth would always be my excuse for a low score. I do like sport, and the K. of C. will always find in me a willingness to help in any undertaking attempted by them. I used to play baseball, at one time being on the receiving end of an independent team with Mordecai (three-fingered) Brown, but when he went to the National league I entered the ministry and, so to speak, lost my identity in the baseball world." John Harrington, chairman of the entertainment committee grew a little chesty, and defied the newspaper men to question his boasts of being a poor bowler.

CITY BECOMES CENTER

FOR POSTAL SUPPLIES

Richmond will become a central sup

ply station for forty or fifty postoffices in four or five counties surrounding. Postmaster Beck learned today- when

Postmaster Springsteen of Indianapolis asked for a conference April 28

to give instructions for sending out

these supplies. The idea is a new one, all supplies now being handled from the postoffice department at Washington. The supplies are ordered quarterly, but owing to the delay in the unwieldy system in getting out small rush orders for daily reports and other record sheets, the government will make it possible by the new plan to have requisitions filed in a few hours, Postmaster Beck said. The local postoffice is now a depository for money order funds for offices of Randolph, Jay, Fayette, Union and Preble counties, which include about thirty-five offices. County lines are not regarded, but the convenience and railroad facilities for reaching offices will be taken into consideration in making up the list which will be subordinate to Richmond in the matter of supplies, Mr. Beck said.

CLUB DEBATES

Power company taking over the municipal plant or the city taking over the electric plant of the Light, Heat and Power company. There is another group of citizens who think the wisest action the city could pursue would be to lease its plant to Its privately owned competitor, providing satisfactory arrangements as to rates and rental of the plant could be made. Mayor Robbins today declared that he was absolutely opposed to any plan which contemplates the disposal of the city plant to its competitors. Plant Refutes Argument. He says the argument of the advocates of this plan that a privately owned corporation can conduct a business enterprise more efficiently and economically than a municipality can is not substantiated in the case of the Richmond Light, Heat and Power company. "The city plant In Richmond has always been a more profitable enterprise than its competitor, it has always given better service, and its equipment today is more modern and in a higher state of efficiency than the plant of the Light, Heat and Power company," the mayor declared. This argument used by the mayor In advocacy of a municipalized electric service monoply is also employed by those opposed to any change in existing conditions. They state that the municipal plant has been a profitable investment for the city, because competition has always required that the

plant be maintained at a high state of

efficiency to retain tne advantage it

is recognized to have over its competitor. If competition is removed, one

way or the other, they argue, there is a prospect that in the future the local electrical service will not be as satisfactory as it now is.

Alfred Stinson, 19, is held pending a decision of Judge Fox on what action to take on the charge of grand larceny which has been placed against the boy as the result of robberies southeast of the city, and the buglarizing of No. 13 school house, while his companions in the thefts, Wayne Stinson, his 17-year-old brother, and Harry Coulter, 17, were released on their own recognizance on recommendation of Prosecutor Reller.

Attorney Ray Shlveley appeared for the elder Stinson, asking that the boy be given a chance to go to work under strict supervision, while Prosecutor Reller recommended punishment to remove the younger boys from Alfred's influence. The case was taken under consideration.

How to Overcome Stomach Troubles

An able stomach specialist says that stomach trouble in most cases is due to too much acid and not to a lack of digestive Juices. The excess acid, hyperacidity, doctors call it, destroys the action of the digestive Juices and your food ferments and sours. To neutralize the excess acid use ordinary Bisurated Magnesia, taking a teaspoonful in water after meals. It works almost like magic. In a comparatively short time you can eat anything. If at any time you have the slightest distress after eating simply take a little Bisurated Magnesia and obtain complete relief in from one to five minutes. , Bisurated Magnesia is sold by all leading druggists of this city. The manufacturers absolutely guarantee relief in any case of stomach acidity or your money will be refunded. Adv.

BRACELET WATCHES

How hampered one is without a watch! Still, one does not always have a place to carry an ordin a r y watch. Dresses do not always have watch pockets and chatelaine pins are frequently inappropriate.

A BRACELET WATCH is the only solution. Always suitable for the occasion, always available for wear and always convenient to look at. A Wrist Watch belongs in every woman's Jewel case. Why be without such a necessary bit of Jewelry when it may be had so reasonably. Very serviceable Nickel Watches come as low at $2.50. Our gold ones are proportionately low in price. Good taste in jewelry is not necessarily expensive. Chas. H. Haner

Men Serve Faithfully. Attention was called to the fact that Adolph Blickwedel has served for thirteen years as president and Anton Stolle for ten years as treasurer. The length of service of Cash Beall as

secretary was commented on. Mr. Beall was succeeded by Hans Koll. Perry J. Freeman spoke of the opening of a new building by the Indianapolis Glove company and declared this company should be offered every encouragement. He said the

South Side Improvement association is responsible in a measure for the company locating here, since it provided the factory building and facilities for carrying work. Adolph Blickwedel, the president, commen'.ed on the fact that the south side is now south of South M street. "Few persons know there is a South M street and yet we are setting here

tonight in a building located south of

South M street," Mr. Blickwedel said. "I remember the time when South A street was the limit of the south end.

Later the boundry was South E street

and when Beallview was opened, It became South H street. Now we can

say the South Side reaches south of S--- tvt offset." Hans Koll answered the jests and goj. 4.&iuied puns which were cast In his direction in a short witty speech in which he handled each of the aggressors separately and effectively. The subject of the puns in a recent arrival in Mr. Koll's home, a baby boy born about three months ago. Joviality abounded and the more serious phases of business life, and association work were discarded, witty stories being supplemented. A guest of Fred Hackman, Mr. Burns, took the

floor and ' was called back to repeat some of his stories. S. K. Morgan had a number of verses which took the house by storm. The last word of alternating lines, rhymed with the name of some prominent member of the association which followed In the next line. The names were not mentioned but the association members guessed them at once. Music was furnished by the Maennerchor quartet consisting of Joseph Wessell, August Sturm, Fred "Wiemeyer, and Urban Gausepohl. The new building is east of the park

pavilion and is large enough for any . kind of gatherings the association will i hold in the future. In dimensions it is seventy by forty feet All meetings will be held there.
